TEXAS

Paint recycling
in Texas.

Paint drop-off in Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin and more. Texas has no free paint take-back at stores.

Check your local rules.

Cities and counties run their own household hazardous waste sites and events, and most only serve their own residents. Bring ID and a utility bill. Small amounts of latex can be dried and put in the trash. Oil-based paint should go to a hazardous waste site or event.

No free state program.

Texas doesn’t have a statewide paint program, so it depends on your city or county. Each city guide shows where latex and oil-based paint can go.

El Paso ↗

Texas has no PaintCare program, so El Paso stores don't take paint back. The city's five Citizen Collection Stations take household hazardous waste, including paint, from residents with a station pass. The catch is the limit: 5 gallons of paint and motor oil a month.

Fort Worth ↗

Fort Worth gives you two choices. Four drop-off stations take household chemicals, including paint, six days a week. The Environmental Collection Center on Bridge Street takes bigger loads and also serves partner cities.

Houston ↗

Houston has no free paint-store take-back. If you live inside city limits, take paint to the Environmental Service Center on S. Post Oak Road, or take latex only to the Westpark recycling center. If you live outside city limits, you probably use Harris County's site instead.

Tyler ↗

Tyler has no year-round paint drop-off and Texas has no PaintCare program. The city's answer for most paint is to dry it and put it in the trash. Liquid paint is only collected on occasional city paint days.

Waco ↗

Texas has no PaintCare program. In Waco, good latex paint goes to Cobbs Recycling Center, up to 5 gallons a month for residents. Oil-based paint only goes to the city's once-a-year hazardous waste day, and the 2026 day is already past.

Spray cans, thinner and other chemicals?

Paint stores won’t take these. Take them to your local household hazardous waste site. Your city guide lists it.
