THE LOCAL ANSWER

Book an appointment in the Austin Recycles app or online, then take paint to the Recycle and Reuse Center at 2514 Business Center Dr.; it's free for Austin and Travis County residents. City curbside customers can instead book a home pickup of up to 30 gallons.

Austin and Travis County residents drop off paint free at the Recycle and Reuse Center on Business Center Drive, by appointment. City curbside customers can also book a pickup. The center gives away recycled Austin ReBlend paint.

Book first

The center is open by appointment only. Book in the Austin Recycles app or online. Open days and times show up when you book.

Curbside pickup for city customers

If you get Austin Resource Recovery curbside service, book a household chemical pickup. Each pickup takes up to 30 gallons, in containers no bigger than 5 gallons, up to three times a year.

Free recycled paint

Austin ReBlend is flat, low-VOC paint made from paint dropped off here. It comes free in 3.5-gallon containers in beige, dark beige or dark green. You need an appointment.

No business waste

Businesses can't drop off hazardous waste at the center. They can call 512-974-4335 for options.

Can't change an appointment

You can't move an appointment. Cancel it the same way you booked, then make a new one.

Free pickup programs and other options

Texas has no PaintCare program. If you live in Austin with city curbside service, book an on-demand chemical pickup. Give good paint away, or pick up ReBlend for your next project. The state says a can less than a quarter full can be dried and then trashed.

Sources and how we checked7

Checked October 7, 2026: Austin's Recycle and Reuse Center, scheduling, ReBlend and on-demand collection pages; Travis County's disposal page (says 30 gallons free, more charged at cost, and points to the city for hours; peer review found it no longer calls the center walk-in); TCEQ's guide; and PaintCare's locator data, which lists the center as a non-program site. Not settled: the center's open days and hours (only shown when booking), the fee for non-residents, whether the city itself caps paint per visit, and whether the city lets you trash dried latex.
