Latex, acrylic and water-based house paint, primer, stain and varnish in sealed, labeled containers up to 5 gallons. Oil-based paint in states where we’ve completed the compliance review. Loading, transport and delivery to a paint recycling or disposal route.
Spray paint and other aerosols, thinners, solvents, strippers and other chemicals. Leaking, unlabeled or unknown containers. Use a local household hazardous waste site for these; your city guide lists them.
In many places, dropping paint off yourself is free. In states with a PaintCare program, participating paint stores and hazardous waste sites take eligible house paint at no charge, and households with 100 gallons or more can request a free PaintCare pickup. PaintCare also runs free door-to-door pickup for 10+ gallons in parts of Colorado, Staten Island and Washington, DC. We’d rather you use those when they work for you. Pickup is for when they don’t: no car, too many cans, a tight move-out date, or no time on a Saturday.
Find the free drop-off near you →Most junk removal companies won’t take liquid paint, and some that do charge a per-gallon surcharge on top of their hauling fee. Our price covers a crew’s time and mileage plus the disposal cost when a free recycling route can’t take the load. Oil-based paint costs more because it’s regulated as a flammable material in transport and costs more to dispose of.
Contractor, landlord and business loads, more than 50 gallons, or rural addresses get a quote before booking. Business oil-based paint is always quoted separately because it can’t be mixed with household paint.
