Start with these

Angelina Beautiful/Clean Household Hazardous Waste Day (City of Lufkin Solid Waste/Recycling Center)

500 Southpark Drive, Lufkin, TX 75904

Accepts
The 2026 list named latex and oil-based paints and stains, aerosols, paints and solvents, household cleaning supplies, gasoline and diesel, antifreeze and motor oil, pool chemicals, batteries, fertilizers, pesticides and white goods (appliances). Not accepted in 2026: TVs and monitors, biohazardous waste or medical needles, radioactive material, smoke detectors, ammunition or explosives, air conditioning units, tires and fire extinguishers.
Who can use it
Households only; the 2026 notice says it is not open to businesses. AB/C invited "Deep East Texas residents," not just people who live in Lufkin. The notices don’t mention proof of address.
Hours
Once a year, not a year-round drop-off. The 2026 event was on Saturday, March 7, from 9 a.m. to noon. In a March 2023 Lufkin Daily News story, AB/C’s executive director, Emily Thornton, described it as happening "the first Saturday of March every single year." No 2027 date was posted in the sources reviewed.
Load limits
No can, gallon or vehicle limit was published for 2026. The full list of accepted materials is on AB/C’s website, angelinabeautifulclean.com.
Fees
Free. AB/C welcomes cash, check and card donations to help pay for future cleanups.

The 2026 date has passed. In 2023, AB/C said the paint it collected was mixed into several colors and given away free afterward, and other hazardous materials went to Clean Earth. That may change from year to year. Ask AB/C at 936-632-5326 or abclean2025@gmail.com before the next event. The event was paid for in part by a DETCOG and TCEQ grant, with support from Lockheed Martin, the City of Lufkin, Angelina County and CMC Recycling.

Angelina County Waste Management Center (county landfill)

7521 FM 58 South, Lufkin, TX 75901

Accepts
A Type 1 municipal solid waste landfill run by Angelina County. The county’s list of wastes "not routinely accepted" includes liquids; off-specification, outdated or banned products and chemicals; paint spray booth wastes; and "empty chemical, paint or oil containers such as drums, pails, cans, etc." The list ends: "Hazardous waste is not accepted at this landfill."
Who can use it
The rate sheet is for Angelina County residential customers; commercial rates aren’t on it. The county’s 2026 Free Day at the Landfill (April 11) let any Angelina County resident bring household garbage free from 7 to 11 a.m.
Hours
Monday–Friday, 7 a.m.–4 p.m. (trailers must arrive by 3:30); Saturday, 7–11 a.m. (trailers by 10:30). Gates close 10 minutes before closing time, and every load must be unloaded and off the landfill by closing. Mattresses and box springs are taken only Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings before 10 a.m.
Load limits
No liquid paint. The county’s list also names empty paint cans as not routinely accepted, and it doesn’t mention dried paint. If you plan to bring a house or building you tore down, you must contact the center first for approval.
Fees
Residential rate effective Oct. 1, 2026: $8.75 per cubic yard (appliances $8.75 each). Cash and check only; no $100 or $50 bills. Every load must be tarped or covered, or you pay a $5 tarp fee ($10 for commercial customers).

This is not a paint drop-off. The City of Lufkin says dried paint can go in regular trash, but the county’s list names empty paint cans as not routinely accepted. Call 936-632-7168 before you haul dried cans here. The site is 5 miles south of Loop 287 on FM 58, according to the county.

City of Lufkin Solid Waste Services (office, recycling drop-off and curbside programs)

500 Southpark Drive, Lufkin, TX 75904

Accepts
Recycling drop-off here and at Public Works, 800 Amey St.: clean cardboard, newspaper, magazines and junk mail, office and shredded paper, steel and aluminum cans, and #1 and #2 plastic bottles and jugs. Paint isn’t on the list, and the list says no household garbage, glass or metal other than cans. The city’s FAQ says dried paint is no longer hazardous waste and household paint can go in regular trash once it’s dry.
Who can use it
City of Lufkin trash customers. Tree services and building contractors must remove their own debris; they can call Solid Waste about renting a container.
Hours
Office: Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Special collections (junk, limbs, appliances, furniture) are picked up Monday–Friday by work order; allow up to 10 business days.
Load limits
City ordinance makes it an offense to put "flammable, toxic, corrosive or otherwise hazardous liquids or other materials" in a trash container or a special collection pile. All household trash must be bagged inside the city cart; bags beside or on top of the cart aren’t collected.
Fees
Small special-collection pickups (a truck bed or less) are unlimited for city residents; one large pickup a year is free, then $55 each. A Litter Critter trailer rents for $55 per load, for a weekend or a week. An extra trash cart is $5 a month.

Not a paint drop-off on normal days. Violating the solid waste ordinance is a misdemeanor with a fine of up to $2,000 per offense, per day.

Which option fits your Lufkin cleanout?4
02

Oil-based stain and thinner from a deck project

Don’t let solvent-based products go in the cart; the city bans flammable liquids there. Keep them sealed and labeled for AB/C’s next Household Hazardous Waste Day. The 2026 list took oil-based paints and stains, solvents and aerosols. Call 936-632-5326 for the date.

03

Cleaning out a garage before a move

If you can’t wait for the next collection day, dry what latex you can for the trash. Don’t load liquid paint for the county landfill, which lists liquids as not routinely accepted and doesn’t accept hazardous waste. Ask a friend or neighbor to take usable paint, as TCEQ suggests. Other junk can go out through a free city special-collection work order (936-633-0281) or a $55 Litter Critter rental.

04

A painting contractor with leftover pails

The AB/C event is closed to businesses, and the county’s list names empty paint pails and cans as not routinely accepted. The city says contractors handle their own debris and can rent a container. Call Solid Waste at 936-633-0281 and the county at 936-632-7168 before loading anything.

Lufkin rules and tips5
THE LOCAL ANSWER

Let leftover paint dry, then put it in your Lufkin trash; the city’s FAQ says paint that has dried is no longer hazardous waste. Save paint you can’t dry, and thinners or solvents, for Angelina Beautiful/Clean’s next Household Hazardous Waste Day at 500 Southpark Drive; the 2026 one was March 7. Call AB/C at 936-632-5326 to ask for the next date. Don’t take liquid paint to the Angelina County landfill on FM 58; its list says liquids aren’t routinely accepted and hazardous waste isn’t accepted.

Lufkin, Texas has no year-round drop-off for liquid paint. The main option is Angelina Beautiful/Clean’s yearly Household Hazardous Waste Day at the city’s Solid Waste/Recycling Center, 500 Southpark Drive. The 2026 event was on March 7 and took latex and oil-based paints and stains for free. Between events, the City of Lufkin says dried paint can go in your regular trash. Texas has no PaintCare program, so there’s no PaintCare store drop-off here.

One free collection day a year

AB/C’s Household Hazardous Waste Day takes paint, stain, solvents, fuels, pool chemicals, pesticides and appliances for free. In 2026 it ran from 9 a.m. to noon on March 7 at 500 Southpark Drive. In 2023, AB/C’s executive director, Emily Thornton, said it falls on the first Saturday of March each year. She also said about 300 vehicles from an estimated 400 households across Deep East Texas had come in earlier years.

Dried paint is trash, wet paint is an offense

The city’s FAQ says paint that has dried is no longer hazardous waste and can go in regular trash. City ordinance makes it an offense to put flammable, toxic, corrosive or other hazardous liquids in your cart or in a curbside pile, with fines up to $2,000 per offense, per day. So only solid, dry paint goes out with the trash.

City and county say different things about cans

The City of Lufkin says dried household paint can go in the trash. Angelina County’s Waste Management Center lists "empty chemical, paint or oil containers such as drums, pails, cans" among the wastes it doesn’t routinely take, along with all liquids. If you plan to haul a load of dried cans to the county site at 7521 FM 58 South, call 936-632-7168 first.

Paint collected here has been given away

At the 2023 event, AB/C said all the paint collected would be mixed into several colors on site and given away free to the community. If you want free recycled paint, ask AB/C at 936-632-5326 or abclean2025@gmail.com whether it’s doing that again.

Businesses and contractors aren’t covered

The 2026 hazardous waste day was for households only and not open to businesses. The city says tree services and building contractors must haul their own debris and can rent a container from Solid Waste (936-633-0281). The sources reviewed name no business paint option in Angelina County.

Free pickup programs and other options

Texas has no PaintCare program, and PaintCare’s locator data has no non-program listings in or near Lufkin. TCEQ’s September 2026 list of household hazardous waste programs has no Angelina County entry, and TCEQ says it doesn’t track collections of only batteries, oil, latex paint and antifreeze, so ask your city. TCEQ suggests passing usable paint on to friends, relatives or neighbors. The city’s recycling drop-offs at 500 Southpark Drive and 800 Amey St. take paper, cans and #1 and #2 plastic, not paint. TCEQ also says household paints and similar products aren’t required to be handled as hazardous waste and can often go in regular trash, though many people prefer a collection.

For the collection day, TCEQ says to keep products in their original containers with readable labels, carry them upright and secured so nothing leaks, and never mix products. To keep good paint for later, TCEQ says to cover the opening with plastic wrap, press the lid on tight and store the can upside down. For a can less than a quarter full, TCEQ says to take the lid off and leave it in a well-ventilated area for a few days; the dry can may then go in the trash. In Lufkin, bag the dry can inside your city cart, since bags left beside the cart aren’t picked up.

October 17, 2026: read AB/C’s 2026 Household Hazardous Waste Day notice (published by Shelby County Today and the Lufkin Daily News), the Lufkin Daily News March 2023 event story, the City of Lufkin Solid Waste Services, FAQ, recycling, household trash, special collections and Litter Critter pages, Angelina County’s Waste Management Center page, its unacceptable-waste list, 2026–27 residential rates and tarp notice (PDFs, the list read as an image), the county’s April 11, 2026 Free Day listing, TCEQ’s household hazardous waste page and TCEQ’s September 2026 county list (no Angelina County entry). AB/C’s own website loads by script and couldn’t be read. PaintCare’s locator data has no Lufkin-area records, and Texas has no PaintCare program. Unresolved: the 2027 event date; whether the county landfill takes dried paint cans; whether AB/C still gives away recycled paint; whether any local reuse store takes paint; any business paint option. We made no phone calls.
