2209 Oak St., Abilene, TX 79602
The center's page doesn't say what proof of residency it checks. The city's Citizens Convenience Station asks for a driver's license and a current City of Abilene Municipal Services Statement, so bring both to be safe. PaintCare's listing for this site says empty, dried or leaking paint cans are not taken; the city's page doesn't mention this.

Your state doesn’t have a PaintCare program, so stores here don’t take paint for free. These are the public drop-off programs PaintCare’s map lists, closest first. Most only serve their own residents and some charge a fee. Call before you go.

Texas has no PaintCare program, so stores won't take paint back. Give good paint to a neighbor or put it in the Re-Store. TCEQ says a can less than a quarter full can be left open to dry in a ventilated spot, then thrown in the trash. Ask Solid Waste Services (325-676-6053) before putting dried paint in your cart, since the city sends paint to 2209 Oak.

Use labeled cans of 1 gallon or less, with tight lids. Call ahead for anything bigger. Go Tuesday–Friday 8–4 or Saturday 8–noon. Bring a driver's license and a City of Abilene Municipal Services Statement in case they ask. Carry cans upright in the trunk.

Checked October 13, 2026: the City of Abilene's Environmental Recycling Center page, Solid Waste & Recycling page and Citizens Convenience Station page, TCEQ's HHW contacts list (Sept. 22, 2026) and HHW guide, and PaintCare's locator data. Two phone numbers: 325-672-2209 for the center and 325-676-6053 for the Re-Store and Solid Waste Services. The city doesn't separate latex from oil-based paint, publish a quantity limit, say what proof of residency the center checks (the convenience station asks for a license and a Municipal Services Statement), or publish a rule on dried latex in curbside carts. TCEQ lists the center as serving residents of the City of Abilene only; we found no program for the rest of Taylor County (Tye, Merkel and other towns). The paint ban appears in the alley-collection list ('Don't Put in Tires, Paint, Batteries, or Chemicals: These must be recycled at 2209 Oak'); the curbside-cart list doesn't mention paint. PaintCare's 'no empty, dry or leaking cans' note is the only source for that rule. No collection events were found for 2026.
