THE LOCAL ANSWERSave your paint for the city's free hazardous waste drop-off at City Hall, 550 Landa St., and check the city's calendar for the date. Bring up to 10 gallons and a state-issued photo ID, and enter from Laurel Lane. It's free for New Braunfels and Comal County residents; the fall 2026 drop-off was set for Saturday, October 17, 2026, 8 a.m. to noon. Between drop-offs, a can less than a quarter full can be left open to dry and then thrown away.
New Braunfels, Texas, has no year-round place for paint. The City of New Braunfels and Comal County hold a free hazardous waste drop-off a few Saturdays a year in the City Hall parking lot on Landa Street, and paint is capped at 10 gallons per car. The fall 2026 drop-off was set for Saturday, October 17, 2026; check the city's calendar for the next one. The city recycle center on Castell Avenue and the county recycling center on Resource Drive don't take paint.
One parking lot, a few Saturdays a year
The drop-off happens in the City Hall lot at 550 Landa St. The 2026 drop-offs were February 21 and May 16, and the third was set for October 17. Each runs 8 a.m. to noon, and the last car in line at noon is the last one served. When this guide was checked on October 16, 2026, the city hadn't posted a date after October 17.
Use the Laurel Lane entrance
You must enter from Laurel Lane. The line backs up Laurel Lane and turns left on Wood Road toward Clearfield Drive, so join it there instead of pulling in from Landa Street. Carry the paint in your trunk or truck bed; trailers are turned away.
10 gallons of paint, and the new rules
On October 15, 2026, the city posted that its drop-off rules had changed, and it links to the current item list. That list caps paint at 10 gallons and aerosols at 5 cans. Containers must be sealed, 5 gallons or smaller and still have the maker's label. Unlabeled or mixed products are refused.
The recycle centers won't take paint
The City Recycle Center at 488 S. Castell Ave. won't take anything with liquid still inside. Comal County's Recycling and Chipping Center at 281 Resource Drive lists paint cans and aerosol cans as not accepted, and takes no hazardous material of any kind.
