THE LOCAL ANSWERLet leftover latex paint dry out completely, then set the dried cans out with your bulk items on your second trash day. Terrell's bulk rules allow dried water-based or oil-based paint. For liquid paint, take it to Kaufman County's Terrell Convenience Station, 287 FM 429 (945-332-9831), and expect to pay. Bring a driver's license or water bill.
Terrell, Texas, has no free paint drop-off. Kaufman County's Terrell Convenience Station on FM 429 takes latex paint and hazardous waste for a fee, paid with county coupons. The city's own Citizens Convenience Station on County Road 319 refuses oil-based paint and doesn't list latex. The city will pick up dried paint with bulk items. Terrell isn't one of the Dallas County cities that use Dallas's free chemical center.
Dried paint goes out with bulk pickup
Terrell's bulk item rules (Ordinance No. 2066) list "dried water or oil-based paint" as a bulk item. Bulk goes out on your second collection day, Thursday or Friday, in a neat stack placed no earlier than the Saturday before. The city won't collect liquids like motor oil and solvents, so the paint must be fully dry.
Two convenience stations, two different rules
The City of Terrell's Citizens Convenience Station on County Road 319 (Wednesday and Saturday, 8 to 4) is for household trash and brush, and you need a city permit first (two free disposals a year). It lists oil-based paint and solvents as not accepted and refers them to "Black Jack Disposal." Latex paint isn't on either list. Kaufman County's Terrell Convenience Station at 287 FM 429 is the one that takes latex paint and household hazardous waste for a fee.
County coupons, not cash at the gate
The county sells coupons for paid items. At the Terrell and Kemp stations you can buy them by credit card only. To pay cash, buy them at a local tax office by Friday at 4:30 p.m. The county doesn't post prices on its site, so call 945-332-9831 first.
The free county clean-up days don't take paint
Kaufman County's 2026 Precinct 3 clean-ups at the Terrell station were March 7 and July 11, and the last is November 7, 2026, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. These events take mattresses, furniture, appliances, trash and recyclables for free. Paint still costs money. Bring a driver's license or water bill.
