THE LOCAL ANSWERRequest a Citizen Collection Station pass on the city's Collection Stations page, then take up to 5 gallons of paint a month to any of the five stations, Tuesday–Saturday 8 a.m.–4 p.m. Bring your water bill and an ID with the same address. Businesses and contractors can't use the stations.
Texas has no PaintCare program, so El Paso stores don't take paint back. The city's five Citizen Collection Stations take household hazardous waste, including paint, from residents with a station pass. The catch is the limit: 5 gallons of paint and motor oil a month.
Get the pass before you load up
Every visitor needs a station pass. Request one with the "Request A Pass" link on the city's Collection Stations page. Everyone, including active military and veterans, must also show a current water bill and a valid ID with the same address. Questions: 915-212-6000.
Five gallons a month is the real limit
Paint and motor oil share one 5-gallon monthly cap. Clearing out a garage with 20 gallons means spreading it over four months, or drying out the latex.
Pick the nearest of five stations
Northeast (4501 Hondo Pass), Central (2492 Harrison), Westside (121 Atlantic), Mission Valley (1034 Pendale) and Eastside (Confederate Drive) all keep the same Tuesday–Saturday hours.
Windy days can close the stations
The city says stations may close or change hours for wind, rain or snow. On a dust-storm day, call before you drive.
Stations also give away paint
The city says the stations are a source of free paint and gently used household items. If your paint is still good, ask whether staff can put it on the reuse shelf.
