THE LOCAL ANSWERHold usable paint for Keep San Angelo Beautiful’s next household hazardous waste day, and call 325-486-3771 to ask when it is. The 2026 event was on June 13 and took paints in household amounts only, with no business or farm waste. Don’t haul liquid paint to the landfill at 3002 Old Ballinger Highway; its list says no liquid paint. For paint you can’t keep, the city says to contact Republic Services (325-481-7726) or donate it to a nonprofit such as Habitat for Humanity.
San Angelo, Texas has no year-round drop-off for liquid paint. Keep San Angelo Beautiful runs a household hazardous waste day that takes paint; the 2026 one was on Saturday, June 13, at CRC Roofers Coliseum, 50 E. 43rd St. The city landfill on Old Ballinger Highway refuses liquid paint, and the city’s own tip for paint is to contact Republic Services or donate it. Texas has no PaintCare program, so paint stores don’t take paint back.
The landfill turns away liquid paint
The city landfill, run by Republic Services at 3002 Old Ballinger Highway, lists liquid paint, household hazardous waste, motor oils and petroleum products among the things it won’t take. The list names liquid paint only; no city page says dried paint is fine there either. Call the landfill at 325-481-7701 before you bring dried cans.
Free landfill trips need your water bill
City residents can dump free once per billing cycle with their most recent water bill (paper or on your phone) and a driver’s license or ID with a matching address. The page says county residents can dump free once a month with their electric bill. Tarp or tie down every load. Anyone unloading at the working face needs a hard hat and safety vest, which the scalehouse has. Hours are weekdays 7 a.m.–5:30 p.m. and Saturday 7 a.m.–2 p.m.; the city asks you to arrive 30 minutes before closing.
How the hazardous waste day works
Keep San Angelo Beautiful hosts the event with support from the City of San Angelo and Tom Green County, according to the city calendar. The 2026 listing took paints, pesticides, pool chemicals and flammable liquids, but only household amounts and “No business or agriculture.” It also had limits for other items: four boxes of shredding and two TVs or monitors per vehicle, and oil and auto fluids in jugs only. The 2022 event list named latex- and oil-based paint and paint thinner.
Paint cans stay out of the green cart and bulk pile
The city’s recycling list rejects “hazardous or toxic product containers (e.g. paint cans or lighter fluid containers).” Empty aerosol cans are on the accepted list. Bulk pickup, which alternates weeks with recycling and is capped at five cubic yards, lists hazardous waste as not acceptable. No city page says whether dried paint can go in the tan trash cart.
Contractors and ranches need another plan
The hazardous waste day is for households, and the listing rules out business and agricultural waste. The sources reviewed name no business option for paint. Ask the city’s Solid Waste office at the City Hall Annex, 301 W. Beauregard Ave. (325-486-3798, weekdays 8 a.m.–5 p.m.), or Republic Services at 1422 Hughes St. (325-481-7726).
