Everything you need to get rid of leftover paint responsibly in Odessa.

814 W. 42nd Street, Odessa, TX 79764
The same site also runs the bulk Disposal Station, a Recycle Station and a Rethink, Reuse Station. The reuse station does not take hazardous materials, so don't leave paint there. The city's pages don't say whether staff check ID or proof of address.
Your state doesn’t have a PaintCare program, so stores here don’t take paint for free. These are the public drop-off programs PaintCare’s map lists, closest first. Most only serve their own residents and some charge a fee. Call before you go.

Box the cans upright and drive them to 814 W. 42nd Street during open hours. Any container over 5 gallons won't be taken, so ask first if you have a big bucket.
Don't. Odessa's neighborhood bulk drop-off refuses paint and chemicals, and its 2026 season has ended anyway. Take paint to the hazardous waste station on 42nd Street.
TCEQ says a can less than a quarter full can sit open in a ventilated spot until dry, then go in the trash. Odessa's pages don't cover dried paint, so if in doubt, bring it to 42nd Street.
The city doesn't say whether non-city residents can use the site; PaintCare lists it for Odessa and Ector County households. TCEQ's statewide list shows no program in Ector or Midland County. Call 432-335-4686 before you go.
The facility's recycle station takes motor oil, antifreeze and cooking oil, up to 5 gallons per visit and 4 visits a year per household. You can drop off paint and oil on the same trip.
Take paint to the Keep Odessa Beautiful Facility, 814 W. 42nd Street (the old Odessa Recycle Center), Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–5 p.m. (closed noon–1) or Saturday 8 a.m.–noon. Use containers of 5 gallons or less in their original labeled cans. Don't put paint in your city trash cart.
Odessa, Texas (Ector County) takes household paint at the Keep Odessa Beautiful Facility, 814 W. 42nd Street, the site formerly called the Odessa Recycle Center. It's open six days a week. Keep paint out of your city trash cart and out of the neighborhood bulk drop-off events, which both refuse it. (The 2026 bulk drop-off season has ended.)
The city now calls the Odessa Recycle Center, the hazardous waste site and the bulk drop-off the Keep Odessa Beautiful Facility. It's still at 814 W. 42nd Street.
The facility is open Monday to Friday, 8 to 5, closed noon to 1 for lunch, and Saturday 8 to noon. It's closed Sunday.
The city takes containers of 5 gallons or less. Keep paint in its labeled can, don't pour cans together, and carry them upright in a sturdy box.
Odessa's solid waste page lists paint among the flammable items you can't put in the city cart. The bulk drop-off events also turn away paint and chemicals.
The facility's Rethink, Reuse Station gives away donated household goods, but it doesn't take hazardous materials. Paint goes to the hazardous waste station.
Texas has no PaintCare program, so stores won't take paint back. TCEQ suggests giving good paint to friends or neighbors, and says a can less than a quarter full can be left open to dry and then trashed. Odessa's own pages don't address dried paint; the city cart rules list paint as a flammable item and make no exception for dried paint. TCEQ's statewide list shows no other program in Ector or Midland County, so the 42nd Street facility is the place to go.

Check the lids, keep labels readable, and use containers of 5 gallons or less. Pack cans upright in a box so they don't tip. The city doesn't say ID is required, but bringing ID with your address can't hurt. Contractors should call first.

Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed noon to 1 p.m.), and Saturday 8 a.m. to noon. Closed Sunday.
No. The city lists paint as a flammable item that doesn't go in the rollout cart. Take it to 42nd Street.
The city's pages don't say. PaintCare's listing says the program serves households in Odessa and Ector County. Call 432-335-4686 to check before you drive.
Probably not. The facility turns away contractor and commercial loads at its other stations, and PaintCare's listing says households only. Call to ask.
Checked October 15, 2026: the City of Odessa's Keep Odessa Beautiful page (new facility name, 814 W. 42nd Street, hours, phone 432-335-4686), its Facility Services page (hazardous waste station takes "paint"; 5-gallon container limit; no contractors or commercial loads at the disposal and recycle stations; reuse station refuses hazardous materials), the Solid Waste page (paint banned from rollout carts and bulk drop-offs; 2026 bulk season ended), TCEQ's Sept. 22, 2026 statewide list (no Ector or Midland County entry) and TCEQ's paint guidance, and PaintCare's locator data (households only, Odessa and Ector County; Texas has no PaintCare program). Unresolved: the city doesn't say who may use the hazardous waste station, whether ID is checked, or whether oil-based and spray paint are taken; it lists only "paint." Older third-party listings gave different hours and phone numbers; we used the city's current page. Business options and Midland's own rules were not found. No phone calls were made.
