Paint recycling
in Oregon.
Free paint drop-off across Portland, the Willamette Valley, southern Oregon and east of the Cascades.
Check your local rules.
Paint stores and some transfer stations take paint for free. Some places only take chemicals by appointment or on event days, and a transfer station’s paint hours can differ from its regular hours. Check your city guide first.
Free paint recycling.

How it works in Oregon ↗17 cities
Albany ↗
Albany sends paint to places like the ReStore, not the Big Pickup. Call the store first; its website doesn’t list exact paint drop-off times.
Checked October 4, 2026OregonAshland ↗
In Ashland, paint goes to PaintCare stores. Recology’s Valley View Transfer Station doesn’t take it, and the recycling center’s new packaging bins don’t change that.
Checked October 4, 2026OregonAstoria ↗
Clatsop County takes household hazardous waste only on set Saturdays at Williamsport Road. The last 2026 date is Saturday, October 17, 2026; 2027 dates weren’t out as of October 2026. For regular paint, a store saves the wait.
Checked October 6, 2026OregonBend ↗
Bend households take mixed paint-and-chemical loads to Knott. Its current hazardous waste schedule has more days than an older county brochure still online.
Checked October 4, 2026OregonCoos Bay ↗
For regular house paint, compare the downtown Habitat ReStore with Beaver Hill’s traffic booth. Hazardous waste events are separate, and every 2026 date on the county calendar has passed.
Checked October 4, 2026OregonCorvallis ↗
In Corvallis, recycling events and paint drop-off are different things. For a few labeled cans, a paint store may be easiest.
Checked October 4, 2026OregonEugene ↗
At Glenwood, paint recycling and hazardous waste appointments are separate. Pick the right one so you don’t book for nothing or get turned away.
Checked October 4, 2026OregonGrants Pass ↗
Grants Pass has several PaintCare stores, but per-visit limits vary up to fourfold. Josephine County’s yearly chemical event hasn’t taken paint. Pick a store by load size, and save strippers and pesticides for the county event.
Checked October 6, 2026OregonKlamath Falls ↗
The city sends paint to Sherwin-Williams on South 6th Street. That store is separate from the county landfill and the nearby recycling sites.
Checked October 4, 2026OregonLa Grande ↗
LaGrande Ace lists paint recycling and is open weekends. Ask separately about solvents and other chemicals; Waste-Pro’s transfer station hours aren’t a hazardous waste appointment.
Checked October 4, 2026OregonLincoln City ↗
Two North Lincoln Sanitary sites in Lincoln City take house paint free: the staffed Recycling Center on Highway 101 and Schooner Creek transfer station east of town. They differ on Saturdays, gasoline and PaintCare’s per-visit limit.
Checked October 6, 2026OregonMedford ↗
Medford residents don’t have to wait for the yearly hazardous waste event to drop off house paint. Drake’s North Medford store on North Pacific Highway is on PaintCare’s list as a year-round drop-off.
Checked October 6, 2026OregonNewport ↗
Newport’s everyday paint drop-off is Thompson’s recycling center at 7450 NE Avery Street, not the Agate Beach transfer station up the road. It’s weekdays only; on Saturday, drive to Dahl’s Toledo station on Highway 20.
Checked October 6, 2026OregonPortland ↗
Portland households can take leftover paint and painting chemicals to Metro Central. Going on a Sunday? Metro South in Oregon City is open then.
Checked October 4, 2026OregonRoseburg ↗
Heartwood takes paint for recycling and reuse, with its own rules: a nearly empty can isn’t treated like a full one. For other chemicals, Douglas County points to a separate hazardous waste option.
Checked October 4, 2026OregonSalem ↗
Salem’s household hazardous waste site at the Salem–Keizer transfer station is open Thursdays only, and it will close for maintenance this winter.
Checked October 6, 2026OregonThe Dalles ↗
The Dalles has a ReStore that takes paint year-round. Tri-County’s hazardous waste events take more planning. Sort your products, then pick.
Checked October 4, 2026Spray cans, thinner and other chemicals?
Paint stores won’t take these. Take them to your local household hazardous waste site. Your city guide lists it.
