From PaintCare’s drop-off map ↗, updated October 6, 2026. Hours and limits are PaintCare’s. Distances are straight-line, not driving.
Add up the size on each can first. Thirty-five one-gallon cans hit the daily limit even with little left inside. Don’t pour products together; staff need labels. For a bigger pile, call Metro or try PaintCare’s large-volume pickup.
Metro South in Oregon City takes household hazardous waste Sunday; Central in northwest Portland doesn’t. Use the hazardous waste hours on the card, not longer garbage hours. A nearby PaintCare store may save a drive; call it about your products and space.
MetroPaint at 825 N Basin Avenue no longer takes, remakes or sells paint. Take household paint to Central or South. If it came from paid work, tell Metro it’s business waste. Businesses must apply and book; they can’t use the household drop-off.
Take household paint to Metro Central Monday–Saturday or Metro South any day, 9 am–4 pm. Both are free within household limits. MetroPaint on Swan Island has closed for good.
Portland households can take leftover paint and painting chemicals to Metro Central. Going on a Sunday? Metro South in Oregon City is open then.
Central takes no hazardous waste on Sunday. South does, so a weekend cleanout doesn’t have to wait.
A nearly empty one-gallon can still counts as a gallon toward Metro’s daily limit. Stay under it or call first.
For a few good, labeled cans, try the Grand Avenue store, now on SE Taylor on the central eastside, open weekdays to 6 pm. Metro takes more chemicals. MetroPaint on Basin Avenue has closed. Call the store first.

Tighten lids and keep cans upright in one layer. Set aside unknown or damaged containers and ask Metro about them.
Full preparation checklist →No. Ask Metro about its business program and fees.
Yes, at Metro. A PaintCare paint store doesn’t take every chemical.
Call ahead for very large containers, business waste or more than the posted limit. Stores can run out of space before closing.
