Take it all to the Crook County Landfill in one trip; PaintCare lists an 80-gallon limit there. Parr Lumber would take only 5 gallons a visit.
Solid latex can't be recycled. The landfill takes it as trash and charges by weight. Bring paint in while it's still liquid next time.
Paulina's transfer station has short Saturday hours and no paint service listed. Save your paint for a trip to the Prineville landfill, open Monday to Saturday.
Call 541-447-2398 and ask what the landfill's hazardous waste site will take and when. If you're a business, you'll need an appointment.
Take liquid paint in its original can to the Crook County Landfill, 110 SW Landfill Rd, Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; the county lists paint among its free recycling items. For a few cans in town, Parr Lumber at 601 N Main St takes 5 gallons a visit. Call the landfill at 541-447-2398 about spray cans and thinner; the free August 29 county collection day has passed.
In Prineville, Oregon (Crook County), most leftover paint goes to the Crook County Landfill on SW Landfill Road. It runs a year-round household hazardous waste and paint site, open Monday to Saturday. Parr Lumber on North Main Street takes up to 5 gallons a visit. PaintCare's 2025 Oregon report shows the landfill took about 4,013 gallons and Parr Lumber about 327, out of 4,339 in the county. Oregon DEQ counts 92% of Crook County's paint as collected at solid waste sites and 8% at stores. PaintCare lists the landfill's limit as 80 gallons.
Crook County takes latex and oil-based paint only while it's still liquid and in its original can. Solid latex can't be recycled, so the landfill charges a weight fee to dispose of it. If you've let a can dry, you'll pay; if it's still wet, it's free.
PaintCare's listing says the landfill site takes most other household hazardous waste and to call for details. The county's recycling page lists paint, motor oil and antifreeze but not thinner or spray cans. The county's free collection event on Saturday, August 29, 2026, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., listed aerosol spray cans, thinners and solvents, and fuels, free for residential customers only. That event is over, and the landfill page shows no upcoming events.
The small Paulina Transfer Station at 15595 SE Beaver Creek Road opens 8 to 10 a.m. on set Saturdays. From November 1 to April 30, that's only the second Saturday. The county's schedule doesn't mention paint, so bring paint to the Prineville landfill.
Republic Services, Prineville's hauler, says hazardous materials aren't allowed in trash carts. Its free self-service recycling depot at 1751 N Main St doesn't list paint either.
With 100 gallons or more, ask PaintCare for a free large-volume pickup. PaintCare's data lists several sites in Redmond, including Sherwin-Williams, Miller Paint, Habitat ReStore Redmond and Deschutes County's Negus Transfer Station (10 gallons). Usable paint can go to a neighbor or a local group.

Keep paint liquid, in the original labeled can, with the lid on tight. Don't bring empty, leaking or unlabeled cans. Box spray cans and thinner separately, and call the landfill before bringing them. Businesses: book an appointment first.

Checked October 16, 2026: Crook County's Landfill, Recycling, Republic Services and Electronics pages, its August 29, 2026 Household Hazardous Waste Event listing (past; location not given), Republic Services' fall 2026 Prineville newsletter and depot sheet, PaintCare's 2025 Oregon report (site gallons; no Crook County underserved event), Oregon DEQ's 2025 paint volume estimate (Crook: 4,339 gallons, 8% retail, 92% solid waste sites), and PaintCare locator data. No calls or visits. The holiday closure list on the landfill page gives no year. Parr Lumber and the 80-gallon limit rest only on PaintCare's list. Not settled: exactly which household chemicals the landfill takes on regular days and whether there's a fee for them; where the August event was held; whether there will be a 2027 event.
