THE LOCAL ANSWER

Call Lucas County Solid Waste at 419-213-2230 to book a Thursday or Saturday morning drop-off. Latex is $1 a can (up to a gallon) and oil-based paint is $1 a pound, for Lucas County households only. Or dry latex with cat litter and put it in the trash with the lid off.

In Toledo, the Lucas County Solid Waste Management District takes paint by appointment on Thursday and Saturday mornings. Latex costs $1 a can (up to a gallon) and oil-based paint is $1 a pound. Latex can also be dried and put in the trash. The city’s 2026 hazardous waste days are over.

Call before you load up

The county program is by appointment only. Call 419-213-2230, say what you’re bringing, and book a Thursday or Saturday morning. The county page gives no drop-off address, so ask where to go when you book.

Count cans for latex, weigh for oil

Latex is $1 a can up to a gallon and $5 for larger cans up to 5 gallons. Oil-based paint, stains and thinner are $1 a pound. Ten gallon cans of latex is $10. Drying latex at home is free.

Toledo’s 2026 hazardous waste days have passed

The city held three hazardous waste and tire events in 2026: June 13 and October 3 at 1189 Central Ave, and August 15 at Ravine Park II. All are past as of October 7. The city didn’t say whether paint was taken. Its new Clean Toledo Recycling Center at 3900 Creekside Ave doesn’t take hazardous waste.

A weekday option with no appointment

Lucas County links to ERG Environmental Services in Bowling Green, open weekdays 9 a.m.–4 p.m. It takes oil-based and latex paint at $0.75 a pound, with a $20 minimum (card or check, no cash). Worth it for a big load or if county slots are full.

Latex drying, the county’s way

The county flyer says to mix in cat litter, sand, sawdust or soil. A trash-bag-lined box or the partly empty can holds it. Leave the lid off so your hauler can see it’s dry.

Free pickup programs and other options

Dry latex and put it in your trash. Lucas County’s FAQ also lists the Habitat for Humanity ReStore at 1310 Conant St in Maumee (419-382-1964) taking latex for $2 a can; call first, since we could not confirm this on the ReStore’s own pages. Ohio has no PaintCare program, so stores don’t take paint back for free.

Keep paint in original containers with lids tight. Pack cans upright in a sturdy box with newspaper. Keep latex and oil-based paint separate so the county can count and weigh them. Never pour cans together.

Toledo questions5
Does Lucas County take latex paint?

Yes, by appointment: $1 per can up to a gallon, $5 per larger can up to 5 gallons. Or dry it and trash it for free.

How do I book a drop-off?

Call 419-213-2230. Appointments are Thursday and Saturday mornings. Tell them what you’re bringing.

Is there a Toledo hazardous waste day coming up?

Not that we found. The 2026 events were June 13, August 15 and October 3, and all have passed. Use the county appointment program.

Can my business use the county program?

No. It’s for individual households in Lucas County. Businesses need a hazardous waste company.

Can I drop paint at the Clean Toledo Recycling Center?

No. The Creekside Avenue center takes recycling, metal, electronics and yard waste, not hazardous waste.

Sources and how we checked9

October 7, 2026: read Lucas County’s household hazardous waste page, its program flyer and FAQ, the Solid Waste Management District page, the ERG flyer the county links to, the City of Toledo’s April 2026 news release and Clean Toledo Recycling Center page, and Ohio EPA’s household guide. The county doesn’t publish a drop-off address; 1011 Matzinger Rd is the district’s office. The ERG flyer the county links to is undated and out of step with ERG’s own page: the page lists latex paint and says cash is no longer taken, so the guide follows ERG’s page. The city’s 2026 hazardous waste events (June 13, August 15, October 3) are past, and we found no 2027 dates or paint rules for them. The city release gives the recycling center’s closing time as 4:00 p.m.; its event page says 4:30 p.m. The Maumee ReStore’s $2-a-can latex intake comes from the county FAQ; we found no current ReStore page confirming it.
