THE LOCAL ANSWERBook a free Washtenaw County Home Toxics appointment: Saturdays at 705 N. Zeeb Rd. (next dates October 17, November 7 and November 21, 2026) or Tuesday–Thursday at 10843 W. Five Mile Rd. near Northville. Liquid latex and all oil-based paint are taken. Dried latex goes in your household trash with the lid off.
Ann Arbor sends paint to Washtenaw County’s free Home Toxics program. You book a Saturday slot on Zeeb Road or a weekday slot at the county’s center near Northville. The county only takes latex that is still liquid; dried latex goes in your trash.
Three Saturdays are left in 2026
The Zeeb Road Saturday collections run April through November. The county’s remaining 2026 dates are October 17, November 7 and November 21 (October 3 has passed). Registration is required, and PaintCare’s listing says it opens 30 days before each date.
Weekdays mean a drive toward Northville
The county’s HHW Center at 10843 W. Five Mile Rd. in Salem Township takes appointments Tuesday through Thursday. Map apps sometimes miss it: set GFL Environmental, 10599 W. Five Mile Rd., then follow the signs.
Liquid latex in, dry latex out
The county takes latex only while it’s still liquid. If a can is empty or the paint has dried, put it in your household trash with the lid off. To dry a small amount faster, mix in clay cat litter or cement mix.
Oil paint is taken in any state
Oil-based paint is accepted liquid or dry, and so are rags soaked with it. Paint with lead is accepted too.
Weather can end a Saturday early
Staff close for 30 minutes after thunder or lightning and close during National Weather Service warnings. On a bad-weather Saturday they may cancel the rest of the event.
