Everything you need to get rid of leftover paint responsibly in Jamestown.

3020 18th St SE, Jamestown, ND 58401
The city’s own baler page lists “ignitables (solvents, paints, fuel)” among prohibited wastes, so never toss paint in with a garbage load. Tell the staff you have paint and let them tell you where it goes. Kids and pets must stay in the vehicle.
Your state doesn’t have a PaintCare program, so stores here don’t take paint for free. These are the public drop-off programs PaintCare’s map lists, closest first. Most only serve their own residents and some charge a fee. Call before you go.

Check that every can has a label you can read. Call 701-252-5223, then bring them to the baler on a weekday. Tell the staff you have paint and solvent.
Stir in kitty litter or Floor-Dry until no liquid is left, and let it dry outside. Ask Sanitation whether the dried can may go in your cart, since the city doesn’t say.
From about mid-November to April, the baler opens only the second Saturday of the month, 8–11:30 a.m. Call 701-252-5223 to check before you go.
Tarp the trailer, or you pay double the tipping fee. Keep paint cans apart from the debris so they don’t get dumped with it. The baler page lists paints among its prohibited wastes.
Take paint in its original, labeled can to the City of Jamestown Baler/Landfill, 3020 18th St SE, after calling 701-252-5223. It is open weekdays 7 a.m.–3:30 p.m. Don’t set paint out for curbside cleanup; the city’s cleanup sheet excludes it.
This guide is for Jamestown, North Dakota, in Stutsman County, not Jamestown, New York. The city sends paint, stains, varnish, primer and thinner to the City Baler/Landfill, its baling facility at 3020 18th St SE. Paint must be in its original can with a readable label. The city doesn’t list a separate household hazardous waste center, ND DEQ’s list of community programs doesn’t include Jamestown, and North Dakota has no PaintCare program, so paint stores don’t take paint back.
The city’s 2026 cleanup sheet says paint goes to the City Baler/Landfill. But the city’s Sanitation & Solid Waste page lists “ignitables (solvents, paints, fuel)” among prohibited wastes. Call 701-252-5223 so the staff know you are bringing paint and can tell you where to put it.
Liquids must be in their original containers with a label you can read. Don’t pour cans together, and don’t bring paint in an unmarked jar or bucket.
Weekday hours are 7 a.m.–3:30 p.m. The city says Saturday hours (8–11:30 a.m.) shrink to the second Saturday of the month from about mid-November to April. Call to check a Saturday before you load up.
Jamestown’s 2026 cleanup week ran May 11–16 and is over. Crews don’t take paint, solvents, thinners, primers, varnishes or stains set out for curbside cleanup.
PaintCare lists Fargo’s site for Fargo, Valley City and Cass County, and Bismarck’s for Bismarck households. Stutsman County isn’t named for either. Start with the Jamestown baler.
Use paint up, or give usable cans to a church, daycare, theater group or recreation department, as the North Dakota Department of Agriculture suggests. Latex you can’t use can be dried with kitty litter or Floor-Dry until no liquid is left; leave the lid off. Jamestown’s pages don’t say whether dried latex may go in your city cart, so ask Sanitation at 701-252-5223. Recycle North Dakota, the recycling drop named on the city’s sheet, isn’t listed for paint.

Keep each product in its original, labeled can. Tighten the lids and pack cans upright. Tie down or tarp the load, since the baler charges double for loose loads. Bring a utility bill in case staff ask for proof of city residency.
Full preparation checklist →To the City Baler/Landfill (baling facility) at 3020 18th St SE. Call 701-252-5223 first and tell staff you have paint.
Monday–Friday, 7 a.m.–3:30 p.m., and Saturday, 8–11:30 a.m. From about mid-November to April, it opens only the second Saturday of the month.
The city’s posted baler rates don’t list paint. Ask about any charge when you call 701-252-5223.
No. The city’s cleanup sheet says paint, solvents, thinners, primers, varnishes and stains aren’t picked up at the curb.
PaintCare’s listing says this paint drop is for households only, not businesses. A contractor should call the baler at 701-252-5223 or hire a hazardous waste company.
October 16, 2026: read the City of Jamestown Sanitation & Solid Waste page, the 2026 Cleanup Week information PDF, the older Where to Dispose of Practically Anything PDF, ND DEQ’s household hazardous waste page (Jamestown is not on its list of community programs), the North Dakota Department of Agriculture’s household waste tips, and PaintCare’s locator data (site 14689, “Jamestown Paint Disposal”). Conflict: the 2026 cleanup PDF says to take paint to the City Baler/Landfill, but the baler page lists “ignitables (solvents, paints, fuel)” as prohibited wastes. We read this as “don’t dump paint with garbage; hand it to staff” and tell readers to call. The older PDF lists different hours (8 a.m.–3 p.m.) and a $5 minimum per load; we use the current page. Peer review (October 16, 2026): baler hours confirmed on the city page’s contact box; the “disposal charge” line applies to tires and oil, so the guide no longer stretches it to paint. Unresolved: whether latex and oil-based are both taken, any paint fee, whether rural Stutsman County residents can use the site, and whether dried latex may go in city carts.
