Paint recycling
in North Dakota.
Paint disposal in Fargo. North Dakota has no free paint recycling program, so you use your city’s household hazardous waste site.
Check your local rules.
North Dakota’s DEQ says paint, stain and varnish from your home are exempt from the state’s hazardous waste rules but still fall under state and local solid waste rules. It lists city collection programs in Bismarck, Fargo, Grand Forks, Minot and West Fargo, and tells everyone else to ask their city or county. Rules differ by program, so check with yours before you go. Fargo’s site is free for Fargo and Cass County residents, also serves Valley City, and takes latex and oil-based paint. The DEQ also says to use products up, or give leftovers to neighbors or charities, before you throw them away.
No free state program.
North Dakota doesn’t have a statewide paint program, so it depends on your city or county. Each city guide shows where latex and oil-based paint can go.
