Marion County Baseline Recycling Center and Household Hazardous Waste (Baseline Landfill/Transfer Station)

5601 SE 66th St., Ocala, FL 34480

Accepts
Paint (up to 5 gallons, the same as the other recycling centers). Baseline's hazardous waste area also lists stain, varnish, paint thinner, adhesives, caulk, gasoline, pesticides, pool chemicals, cleaners and other household chemicals.
Who can use it
Unincorporated Marion County households that pay the solid waste assessment. The county says residents of incorporated cities, such as Ocala, and businesses can use the Baseline Landfill, but it does not say whether city residents' household paint is free there. Businesses call 352-671-8465 for the programs open to them.
Hours
Baseline Recycling Center: Monday to Thursday and Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Baseline Transfer Station (the pay side) is open Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and closed Sunday. On Veterans Day (Nov. 11) and New Year's Eve (Dec. 31), the county lists Baseline open 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. All county sites close on Thanksgiving (Nov. 26), Christmas Day and New Year's Day, and close at 3 p.m. on Dec. 24.
Load limits
Paint up to 5 gallons. The county's Baseline list also names a cap of 15 gallons or 100 pounds of household hazardous materials per household per month. PaintCare's listing says no empty, dry, leaking or unlabeled paint cans and no aerosol paint. Keep products in their original containers and do not mix liquids.
Fees
No extra charge for households that pay the county solid waste assessment. Latex paint from commercial contractors is $50 per 100 pounds ($1,000 a ton) at the Baseline Transfer Station. Regular transfer-station disposal starts at $10 for a car and $20 for a truck, van or SUV.

This is the only Marion County site open Tuesday and Thursday. The county's Baseline list mixes accepted items with lines such as "Any household hazardous from those not paying the solid waste assessment," which read like exclusions. If you live inside Ocala city limits, call before you load the car.

Marion County Martel Recycling Center (west Ocala)

296 SW 67th Ave. Road, Ocala, FL 34474

Accepts
Paint, motor oil, car and golf-cart batteries and fluorescent bulbs, plus household garbage, single-stream recycling, electronics, up to 5 passenger tires a day and furniture.
Who can use it
Households that pay Marion County's solid waste assessment (unincorporated areas). City of Ocala residents and others inside a city or town need a $215 Non-Assessed Permit; people from outside the county pay $268.75. No business or commercial waste, and no waste in work vehicles, wrapped vehicles or vehicles with commercial tags.
Hours
Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed Tuesday and Thursday. On New Year's Eve (Dec. 31) only Baseline is open. The county's Veterans Day (Nov. 11) notice names only Baseline and does not say whether the other centers open, so call first. All sites close on Thanksgiving (Nov. 26), Christmas Day and New Year's Day, and close at 3 p.m. on Dec. 24.
Load limits
Paint up to 5 gallons (PaintCare's listing for the county says 5 gallons per day). Motor oil up to 5 gallons. PaintCare's listing adds that the centers do not take empty, dry, leaking or unlabeled paint cans, or aerosol paint. You unload your own car. Staff may ask for proof of residency.
Fees
No extra charge for assessed households and permit holders.

Paint thinner, stain and varnish are on the Baseline hazardous waste list, not the recycling-center list, so take those to Baseline.

Ocala rules and tips5
THE LOCAL ANSWER

If you live outside Ocala city limits, take up to 5 gallons of paint to any Marion County recycling center, such as Martel (296 SW 67th Ave. Road) or Newton (1750 NW 100th St.). Inside the city, call Marion County Solid Waste at 352-671-8465 before you go: city homes don't pay the county assessment and need a $215 permit for the recycling centers. Baseline, 5601 SE 66th St., is the only site open Tuesday and Thursday.

Paint in Ocala, Florida, goes to Marion County. The county takes up to 5 gallons of paint at its 18 recycling centers and at the Baseline site on SE 66th Street. The catch: those centers are free only for homes that pay the county's solid waste assessment, which mostly means homes outside city limits. If the City of Ocala picks up your trash, you need a permit or a call to the county first.

City or county address? It changes everything

The county says only homes that pay its solid waste assessment can use the recycling centers at no extra cost. That is unincorporated Marion County. City of Ocala homes get trash service from the city, so they don't pay it. A city resident can buy a Non-Assessed Permit for $215 a year at 5601 SE 66th St.; a permit bought after Oct. 1 is prorated.

The 5-gallon rule

Every Marion County recycling center lists paint up to 5 gallons. PaintCare's listing for the county says that is per day. Have more? Spread it over several days, or call 352-671-8465 about Baseline. Baseline's list also names a cap of 15 gallons or 100 pounds of hazardous products per household per month.

Thinner and stain go to Baseline

The 17 smaller centers take paint, motor oil, batteries and bulbs. Paint thinner, stain, varnish, adhesives and pool chemicals are on the Baseline hazardous waste list, so take them to SE 66th Street.

The city's amnesty day happens once a year

The City of Ocala and GFL held a Special Waste Amnesty Day on Saturday, April 25, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., at NE Eighth Ave. and NE 14th St. It took paint, thinner and gasoline from city homes. That date has passed. The city calls it an annual event; watch its Public Works page or call 352-351-6697 for the next one.

Holiday weeks

On New Year's Eve only Baseline is open. On Veterans Day (Wednesday, Nov. 11) the county lists Baseline as open but says nothing about the other centers, so call 352-671-8465 before you go elsewhere. Every site closes on Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 26), Christmas Day and New Year's Day. On Dec. 24 everything closes at 3 p.m.

Free pickup programs and other options

Florida has no PaintCare program, so stores don't take paint back. In Marion County your choices are the recycling centers (if you pay the assessment or buy a permit), Baseline, or the City of Ocala's yearly amnesty day for city homes. Painting contractors pay $50 per 100 pounds for latex at the Baseline Transfer Station. The same 17 recycling centers serve Dunnellon, Ocklawaha, Citra, Fort McCoy, Orange Lake, Orange Springs, Salt Springs, Silver Springs, Umatilla, Weirsdale and Reddick.

Keep paint in its original can with the label on. Write the contents on any unmarked can. Don't mix liquids. Put the cans upright in a sturdy box. You unload them yourself, and staff may ask for proof that you live in the county. Don't use a work truck or a vehicle with business tags or wraps; the centers turn those away.

Ocala questions5
I live inside Ocala city limits. Can I use the county recycling centers?

Only with a Non-Assessed Permit, which costs $215 a year for residents of a city or town in Marion County. Otherwise call Marion County Solid Waste at 352-671-8465 to ask about Baseline, or wait for the city's yearly amnesty day.

How much paint can I bring at once?

Up to 5 gallons at the recycling centers. PaintCare's listing for the county says that limit is per day.

Which Marion County sites are open on Tuesday or Thursday?

Only Baseline, 5601 SE 66th St. The other recycling centers close on those days.

Does the City of Ocala pick up paint with the trash?

No. The city says household hazardous waste is not allowed in regular trash collection. It collects it once a year at its Special Waste Amnesty Day; the April 25 event has passed.

I'm a painter with leftover latex. Where does it go?

Not to the recycling centers, which turn away business waste. Marion County's Baseline Transfer Station charges contractors $50 per 100 pounds for latex paint. Call 352-671-8465 first.

Sources and how we checked9

Checked October 13, 2026: Marion County's materials-accepted page (paint up to 5 gallons at recycling centers; Baseline hazardous waste list), hours-and-locations page (18 centers and addresses), recycling-and-trash-disposal page (assessment rule, $215 and $268.75 permits, contractor latex fee of $50 per 100 lbs), 2026 holiday hours, the City of Ocala Public Works page (April 25 amnesty day, no year printed; April 25 fell on a Saturday in 2026) and Sanitation page, Florida DEP and PaintCare's locator data (Florida is not a program state; county listings are leads only). Unresolved: whether City of Ocala residents can drop household paint at Baseline for free; the Baseline list seems to mix accepted items with exclusions. The "per day" wording and the no-aerosol, no-unlabeled-can rules come from PaintCare's listing, not a county page. The county does not say whether oil-based paint is taken at every center or only at Baseline, or whether dried latex may go in the trash. An older county rates page (utilities.marionfl.org) shows a lower contractor fee of $500 a ton; we use the current marionfl.org figure. The Solid Waste events calendar shows no October 2026 events.

Checked October 13, 2026 against these sources, not by phone. How we research.
