THE LOCAL ANSWERTake leftover paint to Porter Transfer Station, 1326 Good Homes Road, Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is free for Orange County households, up to 25 gallons of paint and chemicals per vehicle. Empty cans with only dry paint left can go in your city cart. Orange County's fall 2026 collection event is Saturday, October 24, at East River High School.
Orlando sends paint to two Orange County sites: Porter Transfer Station in west Orlando and the county landfill in the east. Both take oil-based and latex paint free, Monday to Saturday. Florida has no paint store take-back program.
The city collects trash, the county takes paint
City of Orlando Solid Waste says paint is hazardous waste and can't be picked up at the curb. It sends residents to the Orange County Landfill and Porter Transfer Station, both free.
Dry, empty cans can go in the cart
Orlando's guidance: if a can is open, cleaned out and any leftover paint is dry, it can go in your cart. Wet paint, latex or oil-based, goes to a county site.
Don't go to McLeod Road with paint
Orange County lists three disposal sites, but only the landfill and Porter list hazardous waste hours. McLeod Road Transfer Station does not, even though it may be closer to you.
Watch the 25-gallon cap
The limit covers paint and chemicals together in one vehicle. If you are clearing a whole garage, split it into two trips or two days.
Holidays
Both sites close on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Otherwise hazardous waste hours are the same every Monday to Saturday.
