THE LOCAL ANSWERTake paint to the Naples Recycling Drop-Off Center, 2640 Corporate Flight Dr., Tuesday to Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It is free for Collier County households up to 200 pounds a day, oil-based or latex; above that it is $1.00 a pound. North Naples residents can use 9950 Goodlette-Frank Rd. N. instead.
Naples, Florida, has one of the easiest paint setups in the state. Collier County takes oil-based and latex paint free, up to 200 pounds a day, at its recycling drop-off centers and at the hazardous materials center by the landfill. The City of Naples collects your trash. For drop-off items such as electronics, it points you to the county center on Corporate Flight Drive.
200 pounds is a lot of paint
Collier's limit is by weight, not gallons: 200 pounds of paint and stain a day, free. Over that, the county charges $1.00 a pound. If you have a big load, weigh a full box on a bathroom scale and split it across two days.
Monday hours: the city and county disagree
Collier County lists all drop-off centers as open Monday to Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The City of Naples lists the Corporate Flight Drive center as Tuesday to Saturday. If Monday is your only day, call 239-252-2380 first.
Seven places across the county
The same rules apply at North Collier (Goodlette-Frank Rd.), Northeast (825 39th Ave. NE, next to the fairgrounds), Marco Island (990 Chalmer Dr.), the Immokalee Transfer Station (700 Stockade Rd.), and the hazardous materials center at the landfill on White Lake Blvd. Carnestown, 31201 Tamiami Trail E., opens only the second Saturday of each month, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Keep paint out of the trash
The City of Naples bans hazardous or liquid waste from business carts and dumpsters. Its rules for home trash don't mention paint. Either way, the county centers take liquid paint free, so that is the place for it.
Very small businesses have a county option
Businesses that make less than 220 pounds of hazardous waste a month can use the county's Hazardous Materials Collection Center at the landfill, by appointment, at the county's contracted rate. Call 239-252-8480 or email recycling@collier.gov. Commercial paint at the drop-off centers is $1.00 a pound.
