THE LOCAL ANSWERTake leftover paint to the West Dade Home Chemical Collection Center, 8801 NW 58th Street in Doral, Wednesday to Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is free for Miami-Dade residents, including City of Miami residents. Small amounts of unusable latex can be dried with kitty litter and put in your trash cart. The last 2026 Saturday event is November 14 at Sunset Kendall.
Miami-Dade County runs two free chemical drop-off centers, open Wednesday to Sunday. They take oil-based paint and latex paint that is still liquid. Florida has no paint store take-back program, so these centers and the county's Saturday events are where leftover paint goes.
The City of Miami has no paint site of its own
City of Miami Solid Waste tells residents not to put chemicals in the trash and points them to the county's Home Chemical Collection Center. You do not need a separate city program. Call 311 or 305-468-5900 with questions.
Dry the latex you can't use
Miami-Dade says unusable latex that is still liquid can be dried with newspaper or kitty litter. Once it is solid, the can goes in your waste cart. Oil-based paint can't be dried and trashed. It must go to a center or event.
Give away or pick up good paint
The county asks you to give good latex to neighbors or community groups. Its Chem Again program also hands out donated paint and cleaners for free at both centers, first come, first served. You sign a release form, and it's for home use only.
Wednesday is the first day of the week
Both centers are closed Monday and Tuesday. If you are cleaning out on a long weekend, Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. still works.
Bring a Florida ID to Saturday events
The mobile events check a Florida driver's license or ID card for a Miami-Dade address. The 2026 schedule had 12 Saturdays. Only November 14 at Sunset Kendall, 8000 SW 107th Avenue, is still ahead as of October 7.
