Key Largo, Florida, is in unincorporated Monroe County, so paint goes to the county's free hazardous waste drop-off. It runs on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Atlantic Avenue and St. Croix Place by Key Largo Community Park. You can also book a time at the Key Largo Transfer Station on Card Sound Road. Islamorada residents have separate collections run by the village.
The Wednesday site moved
Monroe County's page now puts the Key Largo drop-off at the corner of Atlantic Avenue and St. Croix Place, by Key Largo Community Park (500 St. Croix Place). PaintCare's listing still says Atlantic Avenue and Homestead Avenue, behind Walgreens. Go by the county page.
25 gallons or 220 pounds a trip
To follow state DEP and DOT rules, the county caps each trip at 25 gallons or 220 pounds of hazardous waste. It allows more than one trip. PaintCare's listing adds that each container should be 5 gallons or less.
Card Sound Road is by appointment
The Key Largo Transfer Station at 11180 County Road 905 takes household hazardous waste only by appointment: call 305-367-4236. Its regular Monday to Saturday hours, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., are for trash and e-waste. The old Key Largo Recycling Facility on Magnolia Street is closed.
Islamorada is separate
The county's free collection events are for unincorporated Monroe County. The county's own trash hauler covers Tavernier and Key Largo, while Islamorada has its own. If you live in the Village of Islamorada, call the village at 305-664-6400 for its collection dates.
