Everything you need to get rid of leftover paint responsibly in Chehalis.

920 NW State Ave., Chehalis, WA 98532
No spray cans, thinner, art or auto paint, or unlabeled, leaking or empty containers. Spray cans go to the Hazo Hut in Centralia.
771 S. Market Blvd., Chehalis, WA 98532
No aerosols and no unlabeled, leaking or empty containers. It's the south-end option, handy from Napavine or Winlock.
1411 S. Tower Ave., Centralia, WA 98531
Paint goes to a PaintCare store first. The same county page also says "No PaintCare materials are accepted at this time," so call 360-740-1221 before bringing a can a store turned away. A fire over Labor Day weekend cut the transfer station's tipping floor to half capacity, so expect long lines. No medicines, explosives or ammunition. Other county contacts: 360-740-1451; swu@lewiscountywa.gov.
5 paint stores and 0 hazardous waste sites, closest first. Paint stores take house paint, stain and varnish, usually up to a set amount per visit. Hazardous waste sites also take chemicals like thinner, but some only serve local residents. Call before you go.

Take it to Rodda Paint or Palmer Lumber on NW State Avenue, up to 20 gallons a visit. Call ahead to make sure they have room.
Stores won't take these. Bring them to the Hazo Hut in Centralia on a Wednesday or the first or third Saturday, 9 a.m.–4 p.m. It's for Lewis County households; the county lists spray cans and solvents among the items it takes.
PaintCare stores refuse unlabeled cans. If a store turns your paint away, the county says the Hazo Hut can take paint a PaintCare store rejected. Its page also says no PaintCare materials are taken right now, so call 360-740-1221 first.
If a latex can is less than half full, mix in kitty litter or dirt, let it harden, bag it and put it in the garbage, as the county advises.
Take house paint, stain and varnish to a Chehalis PaintCare store, such as Rodda Paint at 920 NW State Ave. or Market Street Ace at 771 S. Market Blvd. (20 gallons per visit each). Spray paint and thinner go to Lewis County's Hazo Hut, 1411 S. Tower Ave. in Centralia, open Wednesdays and the first and third Saturdays, 9 a.m.–4 p.m.
In Chehalis and the rest of Lewis County, leftover house paint goes to a PaintCare store, not the county. The county's Hazo Hut in Centralia says it doesn't take most paint unless a PaintCare store has turned it away. Chehalis has four PaintCare stores, and the Hazo Hut handles spray paint and thinner.
Lewis County says: "Most types of paint are not accepted at Hazo Hut, unless the paint item has been rejected by one of the PaintCare stewardship partners." The same page also says no PaintCare materials are taken "at this time." Start at a store. If a store turns a can away, call 360-740-1221 before you bring it to the Hazo Hut.
PaintCare and the county list Rodda Paint (920 NW State Ave.), Palmer Lumber (370 NW State Ave.) and Market Street Ace (771 S. Market Blvd.), each up to 20 gallons a visit. Sherwin-Williams (1565 NW Louisiana Ave.) takes 5. Lincoln Creek Lumber in Centralia, 1621 Harrison Ave., takes 20.
PaintCare stores won't take aerosols. Lewis County residents can bring spray paint to the Hazo Hut on Wednesdays or the first and third Saturday. It's closed on holidays, including Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11.
The county says a can less than half full can be dried with kitty litter, dirt or sawdust, then thrown in the garbage. Empty cans and dried paint go in the trash; paint cans aren't recyclable here.
Mossyrock Hardware, 249 E. State St., is the PaintCare store farther east (20 gallons). The East Lewis County Transfer Station, 6745 U.S. Hwy 12 near Morton, holds household chemical collections on the second Thursday, 10 a.m.–2 p.m. The Oct. 8 date has passed; the county lists Nov. 12 and Dec. 10, 2026 next. It names cleaners and lawn, garden and pool chemicals, not paint.
Palmer Lumber at 370 NW State Ave. and Sherwin-Williams at 1565 NW Louisiana Ave. also take house paint through PaintCare. Lincoln Creek Lumber in Centralia takes 20 gallons. Small amounts of latex can be dried and trashed. If you have 100 gallons or more, PaintCare offers a free pickup. Businesses with under 220 pounds of hazardous waste a month can book a Hazo Hut appointment at 360-740-1221.

Keep paint in its original, labeled can with the lid on. PaintCare stores refuse unlabeled, leaking or empty cans. Count gallons before you go, since Sherwin-Williams takes only 5 per visit. Box spray cans and thinner separately for the Hazo Hut, in containers of 5 gallons or less.
Full preparation checklist →Mostly no. The county says most paint isn't taken unless a PaintCare store rejected it, and another line on the same page says no PaintCare materials are taken right now. Call 360-740-1221 if a store turned your paint away. Spray paint is taken.
At Rodda Paint, Palmer Lumber, Market Street Ace or Sherwin-Williams, all listed by PaintCare. It's free for house paint, stain and varnish.
Wednesdays and the first and third Saturday of the month, 9 a.m.–4 p.m., except holidays. It's at the Central Transfer Station, 1411 S. Tower Ave., Centralia.
Only dried. The county says to dry cans less than half full with kitty litter, dirt or sawdust first.
Yes, if it makes under 220 pounds of hazardous waste a month, by appointment at 360-740-1221. Fees are paid on delivery.
October 13, 2026: read Lewis County Solid Waste Utility's Hazo Hut page, its transfer station rates page and 2026 community events page, and PaintCare's Washington page and locator data for Lewis County. The county's Hazo Hut page lists the same PaintCare stores as PaintCare's data. Morton: the Hazo Hut page lists only a few items taken during Morton's regular hours (Monday–Saturday, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.): TVs and computers for a fee, fluorescent lights, motor oil and antifreeze. Chemicals wait for the second-Thursday collections, which the Hazo Hut, rates and events pages all list (next: Nov. 12, 2026). Neither Morton source says paint is taken there. The county's GreenSheen paint events ran in past years (March 2025 found in search); the event page now returns not found and no 2026 paint event is listed. Store hours weren't checked; PaintCare says regular business hours. The rates page dates the Central Transfer Station fire to Labor Day weekend and says to expect long lines. The Hazo Hut page has two paint lines that don't fully agree: most paint isn't taken "unless the paint item has been rejected by one of the PaintCare stewardship partners," and "No PaintCare materials are accepted at this time." We tell readers to call first.
