From PaintCare’s drop-off map ↗, updated October 6, 2026. Hours and limits are PaintCare’s. Distances are straight-line, not driving.
Split them up. Habitat takes the stain through PaintCare. Mineral spirits go to the city hazardous waste site. The city won't take water-based stain, so not every painting product goes to the same place.
Habitat's paint recycling is separate from its resale donations. Its recycling program takes leftover paint, stain and varnish for free. Ask staff if they have room. Habitat's furniture pickup doesn't mean it picks up paint.
Before paying by the can, check whether free Habitat or the city site fits what you have and whether you can drive it there. The city site is open Friday–Monday and closed Tuesday–Thursday. It's for households, not business hazardous waste.
Take latex or oil house paint to the Tacoma Habitat Store, a PaintCare drop-off. The city hazardous waste site takes oil paint but not latex or water-based stain. It takes up to 15 gallons or 220 pounds per household visit.
Tacoma has two good options. Habitat takes leftover house paint. The city hazardous waste site takes household oil paint and other chemicals.
The city hazardous waste site won't take latex or water-based stain. Habitat is a PaintCare drop-off, so call there first if you have a mix of regular house paint.
Tacoma won't take business hazardous waste. A business should check whether PaintCare will take its paint, or hire a waste company. Don't use the household lane.
If Habitat can't take your load, use the PaintCare map to find other stores. An open store doesn't always have room in its paint bin.

Keep labels showing and lids tight. Ask the site about damaged cans before you bring them.
Full preparation checklist →The city hazardous waste site doesn't. Take it to a paint drop-off like the Habitat Store, if it has room.
No. Business hazardous waste isn't taken. Look at the business options instead.
The city page blocked direct access, so we used current search excerpts. Habitat's total limit and paint hours are unknown.
