From PaintCare’s drop-off map ↗, updated October 6, 2026. Hours and limits are PaintCare’s. Distances are straight-line, not driving.
The Depot may charge you, and the Rover is county-only. Any Vermont household can use a PaintCare store free, 5 gallons per visit. For chemicals stores refuse, use your home district.
CSWD names property managers as business customers. Call the Depot business line instead of booking as a household, and expect per-pound fees for paint PaintCare doesn't cover.
One slot covers 20 gallons of everything. For 20–40, book two back-to-back slots the same day; for more, call 802-865-4663. Fees may apply over 20 gallons, so ask first.
The Rover stops at 218 Colchester Road on October 17, 2026, 8 a.m.–noon, for county households. No business waste, and fewer items than the Depot; check its list.
Book a slot at the CSWD Environmental Depot, 1011 Airport Parkway, South Burlington, Wednesday–Saturday 8 a.m.–2 p.m. It's free for county households up to 20 gallons and takes thinner and spray cans too. For 5 gallons or less of labeled paint, Bibens Ace on North Avenue is closer, no appointment.
In Burlington, paint goes to the Chittenden Solid Waste District (CSWD), not the city. Its Environmental Depot near the airport in South Burlington takes paint, thinner and other chemicals by appointment. The Pine Street drop-off center doesn't take paint.
339 Pine Street is CSWD's smallest drop-off: no trailers or big loads. It takes recycling, food scraps, bulbs, batteries and propane, not paint. On CSWD's hazardous waste list, paint and thinner lack the asterisk that marks drop-off center items.
Households book online. Businesses can't; they call 802-865-4663 and leave a message. CSWD names painters, contractors and property managers as business customers, so rental turnover or job-site paint goes on the business line.
Unlike PaintCare stores, the Depot takes thinner, strippers, roofing tar, glue and spray cans. Clearing a South End basement or New North End garage? One Depot trip covers what a hardware store won't take.
CSWD hand-sorts its best latex into Local Color, recycled paint at about half the price of new. Need a common color for a closet or shed? Check it first.
Other PaintCare stores near Burlington are listed on this page, 5 gallons per visit. CSWD's mobile Rover takes county residents' household hazardous waste. Its last 2026 stop is Saturday, October 17, 8 a.m.–noon, at the Essex drop-off center, 218 Colchester Road: 20-gallon limit, no business waste. With 100+ gallons, ask PaintCare for free pickup.

Keep paint in original labeled cans, lids tight. Add up all your gallons: one online slot covers 20, 20–40 needs two back-to-back slots, over 40 means calling the business line. Label anything moved to a new container, and never mix products. From outside the county? Bring payment.
Full preparation checklist →No. It takes recycling, food scraps, bulbs, batteries, propane and similar items, not paint. Paint goes to the Environmental Depot or a PaintCare store.
Yes. Households book online; businesses call 802-865-4663. The Depot is closed Wednesday, October 21, 2026, for staff training.
Yes, for household amounts from county residents. Others may be charged, and over 20 gallons can bring fees.
Only if it's a very small Chittenden County business, by phone appointment. PaintCare-covered paint is free; other paint is charged by the pound. Out-of-county businesses can bring house paint only.
PaintCare stores don't take spray cans. Bring them to the Depot, or to the Rover if you live in the county.
We checked CSWD's Depot, hazardous waste, Rover, business, Pine Street and Local Color pages, Vermont's environmental agency (DEC) and PaintCare. CSWD's A–Z paint entries wouldn't load, so "no paint at drop-off centers" rests on the hazardous waste list (no asterisk) and Pine Street's own list. Business per-pound fees date from 2022. Burlington's city recycling pages returned errors.
Checked October 6, 2026 against these sources, not by phone. How we research.
