From PaintCare’s drop-off map ↗, updated October 6, 2026. Hours and limits are PaintCare’s. Distances are straight-line, not driving.
Use a PaintCare store. The Paint Shoppes and Sherwin-Williams on North Main each take 5 gallons per visit, so six gallons means two stops or two trips. No Eco-Depot booking needed.
Book the Eco-Depot; it takes all of it in one trip. Pick Pawtucket (November 21) or Johnston (December 5), and keep each product in its labeled container.
The Eco-Depot is households only. Take paint to a PaintCare store, checking PaintCare's business rules for oil-based products. Use RIRRC's list of private hazardous waste companies for the rest.
Those stops (September 26 and July 25) are over. The last 2026 date is December 5 in Johnston. After that, wait for RIRRC's next schedule.
For up to 5 gallons of house paint, stain or varnish, use a PaintCare store like The Paint Shoppes, 275 Smith Street (call 401-421-7256 first). Have thinners, spray cans or other chemicals too? Book a free Eco-Depot slot in Pawtucket (November 21) or Johnston (December 5). The Allens Avenue Mattress Drop-off Center doesn't take paint.
Providence has no city paint drop-off and no 2026 Eco-Depot stop. Take mixed chemicals to Resource Recovery's traveling Eco-Depot in a nearby town, and small paint-only loads to a PaintCare shop.
The city sends you to RIRRC's Eco-Depot, but 2026 has no Providence stop. Any Rhode Island household can book any date: Woonsocket (October 31), Warwick (November 7), Jenks Middle School in Pawtucket (November 21) or Johnston (December 5). East Providence (July) and Cranston (September) are done.
The Mattress Drop-off Center at 700 Allens Avenue (rear entrance on Terminal Road) is open Saturday mornings for residents with proof of residency. It takes mattresses, e-waste and extra recycling. Don't leave paint there.
Providence Public Works lists oil-based paint, thinners, strippers, varnish and stain as household hazardous waste, which state law keeps out of the trash. Latex isn't listed. RIRRC allows dried latex in the trash only if you can't recycle it.
The Paint Shoppes on Smith Street and Sherwin-Williams at 509 North Main Street take latex and oil-based house paint, 5 gallons per visit. No spray cans, unlabeled containers or empty cans. Call first; room isn't guaranteed.
Got 100 gallons or more? PaintCare will pick it up free if it approves you. RIRRC also suggests giving away usable paint on Craigslist. Over 5 gallons? Split it across trips or stores.

Use original labeled cans with tight lids. Pack two boxes: paint, stain and varnish for the store; thinners, spray cans and other chemicals for the Eco-Depot. Book online and bring your confirmation.
Full preparation checklist →No, but you can book any Rhode Island stop. After Woonsocket on October 31, the closest are Pawtucket (November 21) and Johnston (December 5).
Only if it's fully dry and you can't recycle it, says RIRRC. Try a PaintCare store first; they take liquid latex free.
No. You must confirm the waste is from a Rhode Island household; RIRRC points businesses to private disposal companies. PaintCare stores take business paint within PaintCare's rules.
No. Bring spray cans and solvents to an Eco-Depot appointment.
We read Providence Public Works, RIRRC's town, Eco-Depot, paint and business pages, the 2026 schedule and brochure, and PaintCare's map (October 6, 2026). RI DEM's site blocked us, so we didn't read the state's guidance; PaintCare names DEM as the agency in charge. Smith Street and North Main hours and space are unconfirmed. PaintCare still shows a 2025 Pawtucket date; we used RIRRC's 2026 schedule.
