Book Easton's Beach and bring every household chemical in one trip: paint, stain, thinner, spray cans and pool chemicals. It's free, and staff unload.
Take paint to a Middletown PaintCare store, 5 gallons per trip. Save solvents and spray cans for a later Eco-Depot, like Warwick on November 7.
Those trips are for property owners and bulky loads up to 500 pounds. The rules don't mention paint, so don't count on them for cans.
The self-service area at 80 Halsey Street takes books, textiles, scrap metal and motor oil. Not paint.
Book the Eco-Depot at Easton's Beach, 175 Memorial Boulevard, on Saturday, October 17, 2026, 8 a.m.–noon, for paint and household chemicals. Later 2026 stops: Warwick (November 7), Pawtucket (November 21) and Johnston (December 5). Paint only? Middletown PaintCare stores like Beach Paint by Humphreys, 750 Aquidneck Avenue, take 5 gallons per visit any day.
Newport's Clean City Program and Waste Management's Halsey Street transfer station don't take paint. The island's one 2026 Eco-Depot is October 17 at Easton's Beach. After that, use PaintCare stores in Middletown.
Newport's recycling page says events run March 23 to December 7. The 2026 schedule actually ran from March 21 and ends December 5. Use RIRRC's booking page.
80 Halsey Street is Clean City's self-service area: books, textiles, small scrap and motor oil (5 gallons per resident per visit). 65 Halsey Street is Waste Management's transfer station: two free trips a year for property owners, up to 500 pounds each, with photo ID and a tax or water bill. Neither lists paint.
PaintCare lists Beach Paint by Humphreys on Aquidneck Avenue and Sherwin-Williams on West Main Road in Middletown. Newport has none, and Middletown names no town paint drop-off.
Newport bans hazardous waste from trash carts and paid overflow bags. Oil-based paint, thinners and spray cans go to the Eco-Depot.
Can't make October 17? Book Warwick (November 7), Pawtucket (November 21) or Johnston (December 5). Sherwin-Williams at 884 West Main Road, Middletown, is a second PaintCare store. With 100 gallons or more, request PaintCare's free pickup.

Book early; arrivals go by hourly slot. Bring only household items, in original containers of 5 gallons or less, and stay in your vehicle at Easton's Beach.
Full preparation checklist →Not according to the city. Its list covers bulky waste, cardboard, mattresses, e-waste and recycling, not paint.
Saturday, October 17, 2026, 8 a.m.–noon, at Easton's Beach. Appointment required.
Yes, if the waste is from a Rhode Island household. The owners-only rule is for the free transfer-station trips.
No. PaintCare lists none in Newport; the closest are in Middletown.
We used newportri.gov's Clean City pages (cityofnewport.com wouldn't load), RIRRC's Newport, Middletown, Eco-Depot and paint pages, the 2026 schedule, and PaintCare's listings (October 6, 2026). Middletown's own transfer-station page wasn't opened; its RIRRC page doesn't mention paint. Middletown store space is unconfirmed.
