THE LOCAL ANSWER

If you live in the city, book a Noble Environmental drop-off at 3001 Railroad Street (Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2:30–6:30 p.m.); paint costs $0.35 a pound, card only. PRC’s 2026 Allegheny County collection days are all past. Latex can also be dried hard and put in the trash.

Pittsburgh changed its system in 2026. City residents now book paint drop-offs with Noble Environmental at 3001 Railroad Street and pay by the pound. The county-wide PRC collection days for 2026 are over. Latex you don’t want to pay for can be dried and thrown out.

City residents: book Noble, then drive to Railroad Street

The city hired Noble Environmental for household chemicals starting in 2026. Drop-off is Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2:30–6:30 p.m., at 3001 Railroad Street, by appointment only. Latex and oil paint both cost $0.35 a pound, and Noble takes credit cards only.

The PRC events you remember are done for 2026

PRC’s Allegheny County household chemical days were May 2 (North Park), August 15 (Boyce Park) and September 19 (South Park). Beaver County’s October 3 day is also past. PRC lists no more 2026 chemical events, and PRC no longer holds events at 3001 Railroad Street.

Construction Junction won’t take your paint

The Point Breeze reuse store at 214 North Lexington Street says plainly that it does not accept paint, primer, stain or polyurethane. It sells recycled latex paint, but it doesn’t take donations of leftovers. Its FAQ sends you to PRC’s events.

Latex can go in the trash once it’s solid

PRC and the state DEP both say latex isn’t hazardous. Pour small amounts (a can a third full or less) into kitty litter, sand or shredded paper, stir, and leave the lid off until it’s hard. The city says never set out liquid paint with trash or recycling.

Not a city resident? Try Greensburg on a Wednesday

Noble’s Railroad Street service is for city residents. Westmoreland Cleanways in Greensburg takes paint on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday, 8 a.m.–1 p.m., for $0.80 a pound, and PaintCare’s listing says any Pennsylvania household can use it.

Free pickup programs and other options

Noble also does curbside pickup for city residents: a $25 base fee plus a fee per item. Noble lists suburban drive-thru days on October 10 (200 Starr Drive, Monroeville) and October 28 (1551 Mayview Road, Upper St. Clair); they are usually for that town’s residents, so check before you register. Pennsylvania has no PaintCare program, so stores don’t take paint back for free.

Keep paint in its labeled can with the lid tight. Nothing over 5 gallons. Put cans in a box in the trunk or truck bed, since Noble staff unload and weigh them. To dry latex, use a can no more than a third full and mix in kitty litter; buy a paint hardener for fuller cans.

Pittsburgh questions5
Can I still drop paint at 3001 Railroad Street?

Yes, if you live in the city and book a Noble appointment. Drop-off is Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2:30–6:30 p.m. Paint costs $0.35 a pound.

When is the next PRC chemical collection in Allegheny County?

Not in 2026. The last one was September 19 at South Park. Watch PRC’s events page for 2027 dates.

Can I put latex paint in my Pittsburgh trash?

Only once it’s completely dry and hard. Liquid paint can’t go out at the curb.

Will Construction Junction take my leftover paint?

No. It does not accept paint, primer, stain or polyurethane.

I live in a suburb. Where can I take oil paint?

Westmoreland Cleanways in Greensburg takes it on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday for $0.80 a pound. Also check your own town; some, like Monroeville and Upper St. Clair, host Noble drive-thru days.

Sources and how we checked15

Checked October 7, 2026: the City of Pittsburgh pages, Noble Environmental’s Pittsburgh and drive-thru pages, PRC’s 2026 schedule and events page, Allegheny County’s collection page, Construction Junction’s materials list and FAQ, Westmoreland Cleanways, and PA DEP. All 2026 PRC Allegheny events and both Noble city events (July 18 at CMU, September 12 at Brookline) are past. Noble’s page footer lists its Canonsburg office, 724-929-7694; the city’s 2026 announcement (reported by WPXI), PA DEP’s list and Erie County give 412-567-6566 for booking. Peer review confirmed paint is $0.35 a pound on Noble’s price list and removed calculated Westmoreland Cleanways dates, since the center publishes only the 1st-and-3rd-Wednesday rule. We did not find what proof of city residency Noble checks. Monroeville and Upper St. Clair residency rules weren’t confirmed. The DEP paint tips flyer is old but still linked from DEP’s current page.
