THE LOCAL ANSWERDry latex paint with cat litter or sawdust and put it in your Tiffin trash with the lid off. Seneca County's free OSS collection for oil-based paint was October 10, 2026 and has passed; register early for the next one at 419-334-7222. If oil-based paint can't wait, ERG in Bowling Green takes it on weekdays for $0.75 a pound.
Tiffin, Ohio, has no year-round paint drop-off. Seneca County's one free hazardous waste collection, run by the Ottawa-Sandusky-Seneca (OSS) Solid Waste District, was on October 10, 2026 and is over. Latex can be dried and put in the trash. Oil-based paint either waits for next year's registration or goes to a paid drop-off in Bowling Green.
The 2026 county collection has passed
OSS held its Seneca County collection on Saturday, October 10, 2026, 9-11 a.m., at the same time as Sandusky and Ottawa counties. Registration closed October 9 and walk-ins weren't allowed. No 2027 date was posted when we checked.
Next year, register early
OSS limits how many households it serves each year because of cost. Register online at RecycleOSS.org or by calling 419-334-7222 once sign-up opens. Time and exact location are given when you register; the district lists the Seneca County Fairgrounds south lot.
Latex: what the district brochure says
OSS's Local Paint Disposal Options brochure says latex can be handled at home: air-dry an inch or two with the lid off, mix in an equal amount of cat litter, sawdust, plaster of Paris or oil dry, or pour one-inch layers into a plastic-lined box. Once fully dry, trash it with the lid off so your hauler knows the can is empty. The brochure also suggests donating or swapping paint you can still use.
Oil-based paint can't wait in the trash
The same brochure says oil-based paint must go to an OSS household hazardous waste collection, not the trash. Between collections, keep it sealed and upright, or pay to drop it at ERG Environmental in Bowling Green on a weekday.
Not at Rumpke bulk week or the Green Springs center
Tiffin's 2026 Rumpke bulk pickup notice excluded 35- or 55-gallon drums or cans holding hazardous liquids, including paint. The OSS Recycling Drop-Off center at 1518 E. County Road 113, Green Springs, takes paper, cardboard, bottles and cans, not paint.
