Go on a Tuesday afternoon
The drop-off at 1001 Encrete Ln in Moraine is open 1–7 p.m. every Tuesday through October. From November through February it opens only on the first Tuesday of the month. The county doesn’t list specific dates or holiday closures, so call 937-225-4999 to confirm. Look for the green recycling canopy.
Bring proof you live in Montgomery County
The program is free but only for county residents, and proof of address is required. It doesn’t take anything from businesses.
Mind the 15-gallon rule
The county won’t take any single item over 25 pounds or 15 gallons. Regular 1- and 5-gallon paint cans are fine. Keep products in their original containers and don’t mix them.
Small amounts can go in your trash
The county says paint, other than lead-based paint, isn’t hazardous waste. Leave the can open to dry, add kitty litter or sawdust to speed it up, and put it in your trash. Empty paint cans go in the trash too. Fully emptied spray cans can go in recycling or trash.
Dayton bulk pickup won’t take it, and neither will the ReStore
City bulk pickup refuses hazardous and flammable materials. Habitat for Humanity of Greater Dayton’s ReStore says it takes no paint of any kind, opened or not.
