From PaintCare’s drop-off map ↗, updated October 6, 2026. Hours and limits are PaintCare’s. Distances are straight-line, not driving.
Sherwin-Williams on Genesee Street is open until 6 p.m. weekdays and 5 p.m. Saturday; Meldrim’s closes earlier Saturday. OHSWA lists both at 5 gallons per visit. Call about room first.
PaintCare stores don’t take every painting chemical, and the season is over as of this check. Call 315-733-1224 instead of taking them to an EcoDrop open for other things.
The authority says empty cans go in regular trash with lids off, not curbside recycling. Its seasonal drop-off limit is 14 gallons of liquid or 20 pounds dry per trip, separate from the 5-gallon store limit.
In October, take paint to a year-round PaintCare store like Meldrim’s or Sherwin-Williams on Genesee Street. Utica’s hazardous waste drop-off runs April–September only, even though other EcoDrop services stay open.
Utica’s paint stores keep working after the hazardous waste season ends. An open EcoDrop doesn’t mean chemical drop-off.
OHSWA takes household chemicals April–September. Other EcoDrop services continue, but paint and chemical drop-off doesn’t run into October.
OHSWA names Meldrim’s on Oriskany Street West, 5 gallons per visit. It’s for labeled latex and oil house paint, not a solvent cleanout.
The authority now lists 824 Sewage Plant Road. Older flyers say 80 Leland Avenue Extension; use the new one when it reopens.
OHSWA also lists Sherwin-Williams stores in Utica and nearby New Hartford and Rome, each with its own limit. Ask the authority about off-season chemicals or business approval. Businesses or homes with 100+ gallons can ask PaintCare to collect it for free.

Set aside thinner, spray cans and chemical cleaners before visiting a paint store. Close lids and ask about room. Leave nothing at EcoDrop while hazardous waste drop-off is closed.
Full preparation checklist →Only some small businesses, with approval first. Free household service doesn’t cover businesses automatically.
No, not under its April–September schedule. Use a paint store or ask the authority where chemicals can go.
Store hours and listings were checked separately. We didn’t guess a 2027 opening. The seasonal limit is from the authority’s material search.
