The county's hazardous waste page doesn't name the department that runs it. It shares its phone number (620-227-4525) and its contact, Ben Rumbaugh (620-385-0547), with the county's Noxious Weed Department page, and PaintCare's listing calls the site the Noxious Weed Department. The weed department's page gives its address as 10974 113 Road; the hazardous waste page uses 10972. Don't take paint to the Ford County Landfill at 10349 110 Road: its user policy says no household hazardous waste is accepted.
Your state doesn’t have a PaintCare program, so stores here don’t take paint for free. These are the public drop-off programs PaintCare’s map lists, closest first. Most only serve their own residents and some charge a fee. Call before you go.

Box them up and take them all to the county's hazardous waste drop-off at 10972 113 Road on a weekday before 4:30 p.m. Both kinds of paint are on the county's list, along with thinner and varnish, so you don't need to sort them by type.
Pull the paint out first. The Ford County Landfill takes sorted loads of trash, metal, tires and brush, but its policy says no household hazardous waste. Make a separate weekday stop at the county's hazardous waste site.
Don't use it for paint. Dodge City bans paint, gas, oil and volatile liquids in and around its dumpsters. Keep the cans sealed until you can make the weekday trip.
PaintCare's locator lists the county site as households only, and the county page doesn't mention businesses. Call 620-227-4525 before you go, or ask a licensed waste hauler.
Take latex or oil-based paint to the Ford County household hazardous waste drop-off at 10972 113 Road, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.; the county says it's free. Don't put paint in a city alley dumpster or take it to the Ford County Landfill, which takes no household hazardous waste. Call 620-227-4525 with questions.
This guide is for Dodge City, Kansas, in Ford County. Ford County runs a free household hazardous waste drop-off at 10972 113 Road, open weekdays. It shares a phone number with the county's Noxious Weed Department. It lists both latex and oil-based paint, plus thinner, varnish and stripper. Kansas has no PaintCare program, so stores don't take paint back. The county landfill and the city's alley dumpsters won't take paint either.
Ford County's list under 'Paint & Paint-Related Products' names latex and water-based paint, oil-based paint, paint thinner, rust remover, turpentine paint stripper and varnish. That's broader than Ellis County's list in Hays, which leaves latex out. The county says drop-off is free.
The county's hazardous waste drop-off on 113 Road is open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. The Ford County Landfill on 110 Road says in its user policy that it takes no household hazardous waste. The county's Noxious Weed Department, which uses the same phone number, lists its address as 10974 113 Road; the hazardous waste page says 10972. Call 620-227-4525 if you can't find it.
Dodge City's dumpster rules say paint, volatile liquids, gas and oil are not allowed in or around the city's alley dumpsters. Questions go to the Sanitation Department at 620-225-8170, weekdays 7 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m.
The county's page doesn't say. PaintCare's locator, which lists Kansas sites for information only, describes it as households only, no businesses, in Ford County. Contractors and businesses should call 620-227-4525 before bringing anything.
Sedgwick County's site at 801 Stillwell in Wichita is open Saturdays and runs a Swap and Shop for usable products, but it's for Sedgwick County residents. Ford County's page lists weekday hours only and mentions no swap shelf, so offer usable paint to neighbors or groups yourself.
Kansas has no PaintCare program, so paint stores don't take leftover paint back. We didn't find a Dodge City or Ford County page on putting dried latex in the trash, and the city's dumpster rules ban paint. Since the county takes latex free on weekdays, that's the simplest choice. If the paint is still good, give it to a neighbor, school or church group first.

Keep paint in its original can with the label showing and the lid tight. Set cans upright in a box so they can't tip. PaintCare's listing says the site won't take empty, dry or leaking cans, so put a leaking can inside a sealed bucket and call ahead. If you're also bringing used motor oil, don't mix clean oil into it; the county's list says the two can't be mixed.

October 16, 2026: read Ford County's Household Hazardous Waste, Noxious Weed Department and Ford County Landfill pages; Dodge City's Dumpster Regulations and Sanitation FAQ pages; Sedgwick County's household hazardous waste page; Ellis County's item list; and PaintCare's locator data (record 15629; Kansas has no PaintCare program). KDHE's household hazardous waste pages returned errors and could not be checked. The hazardous waste page doesn't name the department that runs the site; the Noxious Weed Department link comes from the shared phone number and contact and from PaintCare's listing. Unresolved: who can use the site (the county doesn't say; PaintCare says Ford County households only); any quantity limit; whether the address is 10972 or 10974 113 Road; whether dried latex can go in Dodge City trash (no city or county page says); landfill Saturday hours differ between the city FAQ (Saturday 7-10:30 a.m.) and the county (first and third Saturdays, 7 a.m.-2:30 p.m.), though the landfill doesn't take paint either way.
