Paint recycling
in Kansas.

Paint disposal in Wichita. Kansas has no paint recycling program, so leftover paint goes to your county’s household hazardous waste program. Each county sets its own hours and rules.

Check your local rules.

KDHE says paints are hazardous home products that need proper disposal and keeps a list of county household hazardous waste programs. For questions, KDHE’s household hazardous waste line is 785-296-1611 and its paint disposal line is 785-296-1600. In Wichita, the Sedgwick County facility on W. Stillwell takes paint free from any county resident, Tuesday through Saturday, and gives away usable paint in its Swap and Shop. Sedgwick County also has a program for small businesses that make less than 55 pounds of hazardous waste a month. Before you toss paint that’s still good, offer it to a neighbor, school or church.

No free state program.

Kansas doesn’t have a statewide paint program, so it depends on your city or county. Each city guide shows where latex and oil-based paint can go.

Spray cans, thinner and other chemicals?

Paint stores won’t take these. Take them to your local household hazardous waste site. Your city guide lists it.
