From PaintCare’s drop-off map ↗, updated October 6, 2026. Hours and limits are PaintCare’s. Distances are straight-line, not driving.
Take them to Fort Hill on a weekend morning. More than two carts' worth? Make two trips. Leave the latex home.
Naperville's six PaintCare stores take 5 gallons per visit, so plan two stops. Or call and make one trip to Whitmore Ace in Plainfield, listed at 20 gallons.
Fort Hill won't take latex. Will County's October 17 Wilmington event takes latex and oil-based paint (15 gallons per vehicle), spray cans and solvents. Part of Naperville is in Will County, so you can go. Book first.
The city says paint dried solid can go in the trash with the lid off. PaintCare and hazardous waste sites won't take dried or empty cans.
Oil-based paint, stain, spray cans and solvents: 156 Fort Hill Drive, Saturday or Sunday 9 a.m.–2 p.m., free, up to two site carts. Latex: one of six Naperville PaintCare stores (5 gallons per visit), or harden it for the trash. Bigger latex loads: Whitmore Ace in Plainfield (20 gallons) or GreenSheen in Crest Hill (200), per PaintCare.
Naperville's chemical drop-off is open every weekend to any Illinois resident, but it won't take latex. Latex goes to a PaintCare store or gets dried for the trash. Because part of Naperville is in Will County, you can also use Will County events, which do take latex.
The program ran out of Fire Station No. 4 on the north side from 1992 until February 2015. Will County notes the move to 156 Fort Hill Drive, just north of Naperville Public Works, 'as of February 21, 2015'. Illinois EPA and the city list only Fort Hill, so ignore old fire station listings.
Fort Hill takes oil-based paint and stain only; the city says to harden latex and trash it with the lid off. Since December 2025, PaintCare stores in town take liquid latex free, including the Buikema's Ace stores, JC Licht on Washington Street and Sherwin-Williams on Gartner Road. Harden only cans too far gone to recycle.
Will County lists Naperville, and its events are open to anyone in a town partly in the county. Unlike Fort Hill, they take latex and oil-based paint, up to 15 gallons per vehicle. The last listed 2026 event is Wilmington on Saturday, October 17, 2026, by appointment. The New Lenox event on September 12 has passed.
Staff unload while you stay in the car. Each household gets two of the site's rolling carts (44 x 25 inches). Stack boxes upright in one layer; loose bags slow everyone down.
PaintCare picks up 100 gallons or more free. For medium latex loads, PaintCare lists Whitmore Ace Hardware, 24604 W. Lockport Street, Plainfield (20 gallons per visit) and GreenSheen in Crest Hill (200 gallons, weekdays). SCARCE in Addison serves households and very small businesses, Tuesday–Friday 9 a.m.–2 p.m. and Saturday 9–11:30 a.m., per PaintCare. Call first.

Split the load at home: liquid latex for a PaintCare store, dried latex for the trash, and oil-based paint, spray cans and solvents for Fort Hill. Keep labels readable. For a Will County event, book first; you get the Wilmington address only after booking.
Full preparation checklist →No. It takes oil-based paint and stain only, and the city says to harden latex for the trash. PaintCare stores take liquid latex free.
No. It's free for any Illinois resident. No business waste.
Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m.–2 p.m. It's closed the day after Christmas (Saturday, December 26) in 2026.
Yes, if there's still product in the can. PaintCare stores don't take spray cans.
No. Illinois businesses can bring latex and oil-based paint to PaintCare stores or GreenSheen (up to 200 gallons), or get PaintCare's free pickup at 100 gallons or more.
Checked October 6, 2026. PaintCare lists six Naperville stores, 20 gallons in Plainfield and 200 in Crest Hill. Still open: whether Wilmington has slots left. SCARCE's site blocked our reader, so its details come only from PaintCare. We didn't recheck the city's rules for empty, dried cans.
