From PaintCare’s drop-off map ↗, updated October 6, 2026. Hours and limits are PaintCare’s. Distances are straight-line, not driving.
Call GreenSheen in Crest Hill and go on a weekday. PaintCare lists 200 gallons per visit for households and businesses, saving eight trips to a 5-gallon store.
Sign up for Illinois EPA's Lockport collection on October 31, 8 a.m.–3 p.m., or use Naperville any weekend.
Book Will County's October 17 Wilmington appointment. It takes latex and oil-based paint up to 15 gallons per vehicle, plus spray cans and solvents. If it's full, split the load: latex to PaintCare, the rest to Lockport or Naperville.
PaintCare stores and GreenSheen don't take spray cans. Will County's paint guide sends them to a hazardous waste site or event.
House paint (latex or oil-based): GreenSheen, 2001 Weber Road, Crest Hill, weekdays 8–4:30, up to 200 gallons per PaintCare. Joliet's four PaintCare stores take 5 gallons per visit. Spray cans and solvents: sign up for the Illinois EPA collection in Lockport on Saturday, October 31 (no latex), or use Naperville's weekend site.
Joliet has no year-round chemical drop-off, but it has something rare: a paint recycler a few miles north in Crest Hill that PaintCare lists for up to 200 gallons a visit. Two one-day collections nearby this fall have different latex rules.
Will County's Wilmington drop-off (Saturday, October 17, by appointment) takes latex and oil-based paint, up to 15 gallons per vehicle. Illinois EPA's Lockport collection at Shiloh Baptist Church (Saturday, October 31, sign up first) takes oil-based paint and chemicals but not latex. Both are still ahead as of October 6, 2026. If you have latex, pick Wilmington.
Will County's household hazardous materials page (updated April 2025) says events take latex and oil-based paint up to 15 gallons, then lists oil-based only. The 2026 Wilmington flyer lists latex and oil-based paint and stain. Go by the flyer and ask when you book.
GreenSheen remakes old paint into new at its Illinois site on Weber Road in Crest Hill, a few miles north of downtown. PaintCare lists it for households and businesses, weekdays, up to 200 gallons per visit. That suits a landlord or a garage of old cans. Call 815-954-2673 first; GreenSheen's own site gives no drop-off rules.
The nearest year-round site is Naperville's, 156 Fort Hill Drive, about 17 miles north, open Saturdays and Sundays 9–2. Will County helps fund it. It takes any Illinois resident's household chemicals, but no latex.
PaintCare lists four Joliet stores at 5 gallons per visit: Sherwin-Williams at 118 N. Larkin Avenue and 2707 Plainfield Road, JC Licht at 928 Plainfield Road and Whitmore Ace at 1202 Essington Road. Whitmore Ace in Plainfield lists 20 gallons. PaintCare picks up 100 gallons or more free. Will County lets you harden small amounts of latex for the trash if recycling isn't practical. Spray paint must go to a hazardous waste site or event.

Separate latex from oil-based paint and spray cans first; Lockport turns latex away. Keep paint in original labeled cans of 5 gallons or less. Book Wilmington (it sends the address after you book) or sign up for Lockport. For GreenSheen, call with a gallon count and go on a weekday.
Full preparation checklist →No. The nearest is in Naperville. Will County holds one-day events, and Illinois EPA has Lockport on October 31, 2026.
No. Illinois EPA lists latex as not accepted. Take latex to a PaintCare site or a Will County one-day event (the last listed for 2026 is October 17 in Wilmington).
PaintCare lists GreenSheen in Crest Hill at up to 200 gallons per visit. Call first. Most stores stop at 5 gallons.
PaintCare stores and GreenSheen (per PaintCare) take Illinois businesses' paint, oil-based included. The Will County and Illinois EPA events and Naperville refuse business waste.
Not for Will County events: they serve any town partly in Will County, which covers all of Joliet. The Illinois EPA event and Naperville take any Illinois resident.
Checked October 6, 2026. PaintCare lists four Joliet stores, GreenSheen at 200 gallons and Plainfield at 20. Still open: Joliet's city site blocked our reader. Search results mention a WM At Your Door home pickup, but no current city page confirmed it, so we left it out. GreenSheen's rules come only from PaintCare.
