THE LOCAL ANSWERKeep liquid paint until Madison County's next Haz-Waste days at the transfer station, 530 Airport Rd. They're free for county residents and usually held one weekend in May and one in September. Both 2026 events have passed, and the station won't take liquids or hazardous materials on other days. Call 208-656-5035 for the next date.
In Rexburg, Idaho, liquid paint is taken only at Madison County's Haz-Waste days at the transfer station, 530 Airport Rd. The City of Rexburg says these usually happen one weekend in May and one in September. Both 2026 events have passed. On any other day, the station can't take liquids or hazardous materials.
Paint has two windows a year
The transfer station is open Monday–Saturday, 7 a.m.–5 p.m., but it takes paint only on Haz-Waste days. The city says it posts those dates on its calendar and social media as they come up. The county's solid waste page still lists only 2025 dates, so watch the city's posts or call 208-656-5035 in spring.
Free, but for Madison County homes only
The city says Haz-Waste days are free. The county's last posted flyer (2020) said they were free to local residents, with no out-of-county and no commercial waste. PaintCare's listing also says households only.
Don't bring paint on a regular day
The county's page says the transfer station can't take any liquids of any kind or any hazardous materials. The county's construction and demolition pit doesn't take liquids or hazardous materials either. The City of Rexburg says that pit is west of the city by the Menan Buttes.
Idaho Falls isn't a backup
Bonneville County's collection days in Idaho Falls are for Bonneville County residents only. The 2026 days there were in May and September, so they've passed too. Plan around Madison County's own events.
Paint doesn't go in your city trash can
Rexburg's trash rules list paint among the items you can't put in your garbage container. If the crew finds it, your container won't be emptied that day, and you could be charged $30 for a return trip. The rules don't say whether fully dried latex is an exception. Recycling takes tin cans only if they're rinsed of contents.
