Start with these

Leon County Hazardous Waste Center

7550 Apalachee Parkway, Tallahassee, FL 32311

Accepts
Paint, stains, thinner and other solvents, plus gasoline, motor oil, pesticides, cleaners, batteries, electronics and 1-pound and 20-pound propane cylinders. The county page does not split latex from oil-based paint; it lists paint as one item.
Who can use it
All Leon County households, inside or outside Tallahassee city limits. Businesses that make less than 220 pounds of hazardous waste a month, and other agencies, can use it by appointment only; call 850-606-1803 (PaintCare's listing says to call Monday through Friday). They get proof that the waste was handled properly.
Hours
Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed Sunday.
Load limits
Paint is limited to 15 gallons. Gasoline is also capped at 15 gallons. The county's packing guide asks you to label anything not in its original container, keep like items together, and carry containers in the trunk or truck bed, away from passengers.
Fees
Free for Leon County households. Small businesses pay; the county says its cost is lower than most private hazardous waste companies.

This is the only Leon County site that takes business paint, and the only household site whose county page lists paint thinner. It does not take Styrofoam, medicine, sharps, radioactive items or large gas cylinders. PaintCare's locator marks this site as having a reuse shelf, but the county page does not describe one, so ask staff if you want free paint.

Leon County Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Site (Blair Stone Road)

1800 N. Blair Stone Road, Tallahassee, FL 32308

Accepts
Paint, household chemicals, used motor oil and cooking oil (in containers), antifreeze, batteries, bulbs and fluorescent tubes up to 4 feet, and small electronics such as computers and TVs up to 32 inches.
Who can use it
Household hazardous waste from homes only. Businesses and nonprofits may not use this site. The county page does not describe a residency check; PaintCare's listing says it serves Leon County households.
Hours
Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Load limits
No paint thinner, fuel or other flammables. PaintCare's listing gives a 50-pound limit per visit; the county page does not list one. If you have a big load, call 850-606-1803 first.
Fees
No fee is listed.

This is a smaller site on the east side of Tallahassee. The county page gives the general line 850-606-5300; hazardous waste questions go to 850-606-1803. The city's 2023 brochure lists it as a paint drop-off.

Leon County Rural Waste Service Center - Woodville

549 Henry Jones Road, Tallahassee, FL 32305

Accepts
The county's hazardous waste page says the rural centers take paints, used oil, car batteries and fluorescent bulbs. The rural center page itself only says limited household hazardous waste is taken and to call 850-606-1803 about paint.
Who can use it
Only people who live in unincorporated Leon County, outside Tallahassee city limits. Bring a government ID with that address, or an ID plus official mail such as a utility bill. No commercial use.
Hours
Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed Monday to Thursday.
Load limits
One level pickup-truck load per customer per day; extra loads are turned away. Trailers no larger than 8 by 6 by 2 feet. Sort garbage, recycling, yard debris, bulky items and hazardous waste before you arrive.
Fees
Free for residents of unincorporated Leon County.

City of Tallahassee residents cannot use the rural centers. The other two rural centers keep the same hours: Fort Braden, 2485 East Joe Thomas Road (850-606-1837), and Miccosukee, 13051 Miccosukee Road (850-606-1835). The city's 2023 brochure prints 13031 Miccosukee Road; we use the county's number. Call before bringing paint, since the two county pages describe paint differently.

Which option fits your Tallahassee cleanout?4
03

You are clearing out 20-plus gallons after a remodel

The main center caps paint at 15 gallons. Call 850-606-1803 to ask how to handle the rest. If the paint came from a paid job, the contractor needs a business appointment.

Tallahassee rules and tips5
THE LOCAL ANSWER

Take leftover paint to the Leon County Hazardous Waste Center, 7550 Apalachee Parkway, Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is free for Leon County households, up to 15 gallons of paint. The Blair Stone Road site on the east side also takes paint, but not paint thinner. City residents cannot use the county's rural waste centers.

Tallahassee does not collect paint itself. Leon County takes it for free at the Hazardous Waste Center on Apalachee Parkway and at a smaller drop-off site on North Blair Stone Road. Florida has no paint store take-back program, so these county sites are where leftover paint goes.

Two county sites keep the same hours

The Apalachee Parkway center and the 1800 N. Blair Stone Road site are both open Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Both are closed Sunday. Pick whichever is closer. Blair Stone Road is nearer midtown; Apalachee Parkway is farther out on the east side.

Bring thinner and big loads to Apalachee Parkway

Blair Stone Road refuses fuel, paint thinner and other flammables, and PaintCare's listing gives it a 50-pound limit. The main center takes thinner, stains and solvents, and up to 15 gallons of paint.

Rural centers are for people outside city limits

The Woodville, Fort Braden and Miccosukee centers are only for residents of unincorporated Leon County, and you must show ID with that address. They open Friday to Sunday only. If you live inside Tallahassee, use the two hazardous waste sites instead.

Landlords and painters need an appointment

Businesses that make under 220 pounds of hazardous waste a month can bring it to Apalachee Parkway for a fee, by appointment. Call 850-606-1803 on a weekday. Businesses may not use Blair Stone Road or the rural centers, and nonprofits may not use Blair Stone Road.

The city brochure points to the county

City of Tallahassee Utilities' hazardous waste brochure lists paint, stains and aerosol cans under the county's Solid Waste Management Facility and its hazardous waste drop-off sites at 7550 Apalachee Parkway and 1800 N. Blair Stone Road. For questions, the city line is 850-891-4968 and the county line is 850-606-1800.

Free pickup programs and other options

Florida has no PaintCare program, so paint stores do not take paint back and there is no free large-volume pickup. Your choices are the two Leon County hazardous waste sites, the rural centers if you live outside city limits, or giving good paint to a neighbor or group. Leon County's pages do not say whether dried latex may go in the trash, so ask 850-606-1803 before you try it. Businesses either book the county's small-business appointment or hire a private hazardous waste company.

Keep paint in its original can with the lid pressed on. Write the contents on any can that lost its label. Group paint with paint, and keep it apart from pool chemicals and cleaners. Put the box in the trunk or truck bed, not in the cabin.

Tallahassee questions5
Is the Leon County Hazardous Waste Center free for Tallahassee residents?

Yes. The county says its services are free for all Leon County households, and city residents are county residents. Businesses pay.

How much paint can I bring at once?

The Apalachee Parkway center caps paint at 15 gallons. If you have more, call 850-606-1803 before you load the car.

Can I take paint to the Woodville or Fort Braden center?

Only if you live in unincorporated Leon County, outside Tallahassee city limits. Bring an ID with that address. Call first about paint, because the county's two pages describe it differently.

Does the Blair Stone Road site take paint thinner?

No. It refuses fuel, paint thinner and other flammables. Take those to 7550 Apalachee Parkway.

Can my contractor drop off paint from my job?

Not at the household sites. A business that makes less than 220 pounds of hazardous waste a month can book a paid appointment at Apalachee Parkway by calling 850-606-1803.

Sources and how we checked8

Checked October 13, 2026: Leon County's Hazardous Waste Center page (address, Monday to Saturday hours, free for households, 15-gallon paint limit, business appointments), the Blair Stone Road drop-off page (household only, no thinner or flammables), the Rural Waste Service Centers page (unincorporated residents only, ID rules, Friday to Sunday hours), the county's Safe Packing Guide (June 7, 2024), the City of Tallahassee Utilities hazardous waste brochure (revised October 31, 2023), Florida DEP's household hazardous waste page and PaintCare's locator data (Florida is not a program state). Unresolved: the county does not say whether dried latex may go in the trash, so we do not tell readers to dry it. The 50-pound limit at Blair Stone Road comes from PaintCare's listing, not the county page. The rural centers' paint rules differ between two county pages. PaintCare's listing marks the main center as having reuse. A 2005 county flyer and the county's 2012 annual report describe a Swap Shop at 7550 Apalachee Parkway, but no current county page mentions it, so we do not send readers there; ask staff. County releases from early 2020 describe monthly Saturday collection events at 2280 Miccosukee Road; we found no 2026 event schedule and list none. The appointment line's Monday-to-Friday hours and the 50-pound Blair Stone limit come only from PaintCare's listing. Miccosukee's address is 13051 on the county page and 13031 in the city brochure.

Checked October 13, 2026 against these sources, not by phone. How we research.
