You just finished a weekend project

Check whether this Saturday is the first or third of the month. If not, wait until Tuesday or drive to HHW North in Clearwater on its next date: October 10, October 24, November 14 or December 12, 2026, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

St. Petersburg rules and tips4
THE LOCAL ANSWER

Take paint, with your ID, to the free Pinellas County HHW Center at 2855 109th Avenue N., open Tuesday to Friday and the first and third Saturdays, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Each vehicle can bring 20 one-gallon and 5 five-gallon cans a day. The free Swap Shop there gives away leftover paint.

St. Petersburg sends paint to Pinellas County's free HHW Center on 109th Avenue North, near the county solid waste complex on 114th Avenue North. Bring your ID: staff scan it to check you live in Pinellas. The same building has a free Swap Shop where you can take paint home.

Saturdays only twice a month

The HHW Center is open Tuesday to Friday, but on Saturdays only the first and third of each month, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Check the calendar before a weekend trip.

Count your cans: 20 small, 5 large

Each vehicle can bring 20 one-gallon and 5 five-gallon paint containers per day, counting stains and solvents too. More than that and the county sends you to its business events.

Shop before you buy

The Swap Shop at the HHW Center gives Pinellas residents free leftover paint, cleaners and car fluids. You don't need to bring anything. Only 3 people go in at a time, and stock changes fast.

The city's own events are done for 2026

St. Petersburg held its own collection days on March 7 at SPC Gibbs and September 5 at Pinellas Technical College. Both are past. The county center is your option for the rest of the year.

Free pickup programs and other options

Florida has no PaintCare program, so stores here do not take paint back. North County residents can use HHW North in Clearwater on select Saturdays. Paint still in good shape can go to a neighbor or community group.

Sources and how we checked7

October 7, 2026 check: read the county HHW page (updated April 30, 2026) for hours, ID scan, per-vehicle limits, Swap Shop and the 2026 HHW North and city event dates, and the business event page (updated June 11, 2026) for dates and prices. A WMNF report confirmed the September 5, 2026 city event. The lead pointing to a Bryan Dairy Road center was not supported; the county lists 2855 109th Ave. N. No county rule on drying latex for the trash was found. PaintCare lists the center as a non-program site.
