Which option fits your Pensacola cleanout?4
02

You're clearing out a garage with a trailer full of junk and paint

The county calls this a split load. Unload paint and chemicals at the hazardous waste drop-off first, then take the rest to the Customer Convenience Center. Large loads that need hand unloading must arrive by 4:30 p.m. on weekdays or 3 p.m. on Saturday.

03

You need paint for a fence or shed

Go to the Perdido Landfill on a first or third Thursday morning with a new 5-gallon bucket and lid. The county trades it for a bucket of re-blended latex paint, two per vehicle. One county page says 8 a.m. to noon and another says 8 to 11 a.m., so go early or call 850-937-2160.

Pensacola rules and tips5
THE LOCAL ANSWER

Take leftover paint to the Escambia County hazardous waste drop-off at the Perdido Landfill, 13009 Beulah Rd., Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. It's free for Escambia County residents, and the county takes latex and oil-based paint. City of Pensacola garbage crews won't collect paint.

In Pensacola, Florida, leftover paint goes to Escambia County's free household hazardous waste drop-off at the Perdido Landfill on Beulah Road in Cantonment. The City of Pensacola won't pick up paint with your garbage. The same landfill also gives away free re-blended latex paint on set Thursdays.

There's no paint drop-off inside city limits

Pensacola Sanitation lists paint with tires, pesticides, used motor oil and acid batteries as items it won't collect with garbage. It sends residents to the county program. The county's year-round hazardous waste drop-off is at the Perdido Landfill in Cantonment.

Ten gallons or twenty? The county says both

The county's hazardous waste page allows up to 20 gallons of paint. The county's recycling page and PaintCare's non-program listing say 10. If you have more than 10 gallons, call Waste Services at 850-937-2160 before you load the car.

Pick up free paint on the same trip

The county screens donated latex paint, blends it and fills new 5-gallon buckets. It gives it away at the Perdido Landfill on the first and third Thursday of the month, while supplies last. Bring a clean, new 5-gallon bucket with a lid to trade. The limit is two buckets per vehicle, and you check in at the scale house first. Days get canceled when there isn't enough paint, so call 850-937-2160 to check colors and the date.

Neighborhood cleanups take paint cans, but not on your schedule

Both the city and the county run curbside cleanups that take old paint and paint cans. Keep paint cans apart from the rest of the pile. The city gives each neighborhood one cleanup a year, January through October. The county's calendar shows the cleanups that had been set for October 21, November 4 and November 18, 2026 (Northpointe, Olive Road and Ensley North) as canceled, and it lists no upcoming events. Don't wait for a cleanup if you can drive to Perdido.

Who to call

Escambia County Waste Services: 850-937-2160. City of Pensacola Sanitation (garbage and cleanups inside city limits): 850-435-1890. Outside city limits, ECUA collects your trash and says paint goes to the county program; ECUA's number is 850-476-0480.

Free pickup programs and other options

Florida has no PaintCare program, so Pensacola paint stores don't take leftover paint back for free. The county's Oak Grove site in McDavid is open Fridays and Saturdays; one county page and PaintCare's non-program listing say it takes paint, but the Oak Grove page doesn't, so call first. Pensacola's city bulk pickup won't take hazardous waste. Contractor debris is the contractor's job under city code. Businesses can't use the county drop-off at all. This guide is for Pensacola in Escambia County, Florida, not Escambia County, Alabama.

Keep paint in its original labeled cans with lids pressed shut, and don't mix products. Count your gallons before you go, since the county's limits differ by page. If you're also hauling junk in a trailer, plan to stop at the hazardous waste spot first. Bring a new 5-gallon bucket with a lid if you want free paint on a Thursday.

Where can I get free paint in Pensacola?

Sources and how we checked16

Checked October 16, 2026: Escambia County's household hazardous waste page (Perdido drop-off hours, 20-gallon paint limit, no business waste, split loads), the county Programs Division page (free paint first and third Thursdays, 8 to 11 a.m., and a free-paint date list with no year) and the 2024 notice that started that schedule (8 a.m. to noon, two buckets per vehicle), the county's Recycling page at the educational-information address (10-gallon paint limit, Oak Grove listed for hazardous waste), the Perdido Landfill and Oak Grove pages, the county's residential provider and neighborhood cleanup pages, the City of Pensacola Sanitation, FAQ, Mayor's Neighborhood Cleanup and special collection pages, ECUA's hazardous waste page, Florida DEP and PaintCare's listings (non-program listings for Perdido, Oak Grove and the county cleanups). Unresolved: the 10- vs 20-gallon paint limit; whether Oak Grove really takes paint; free-paint hours (noon vs 11 a.m.; the hazardous waste page also prints "the first and Thursday"). PaintCare lists the landfill's general hours, not the shorter hazardous waste hours. The city FAQ says the county holds quarterly Regional Roundups, but the county's Regional Roundups page showed an error page on October 17, 2026. The county cleanup calendar shows the October 21, November 4 and November 18, 2026 cleanups as canceled and lists no upcoming events. Several county and city pages still show a Hurricane Isaias banner, and the city's cleanup page shows an old "next cleanup" date, so those notices are stale. The county's free-paint date list prints no year, so this guide doesn't repeat it. No phone calls were made.
