From PaintCare’s drop-off map ↗, updated October 6, 2026. Hours and limits are PaintCare’s. Distances are straight-line, not driving.
MDC member-town residents can go to 6 Stanton Road, Windsor Locks, on October 17, or 17 Brixton Street, West Hartford, on October 31. Both run 8–1. West Hartford moved from September 26, so ignore that date on old schedules.
MDC links a separate town and business packet: item list, signed form, approval, appointment and price quote. Unlisted items are refused. The form is old, so call the hotline about how to submit and pay before using its contacts.
MDC’s household packet says possible lead or mercury paint and paint-stripping debris need review first. Describe them before you load. The 5-gallon can rule doesn’t mean they take chips, sludge or unknown products.
Hartford households can use any MDC member-town event. 2026 dates left: October 17 in Windsor Locks, October 24 at 125 Maxim Road in Hartford, and October 31 in West Hartford, all 8–1. 2027 dates were not out as of October 6, 2026. Businesses need a separate approved appointment and pay a fee.
Hartford’s MDC household collection at 125 Maxim Road is October 24 in 2026. It takes household paint plus listed cleaning and renovation chemicals. Maxim Road isn’t a year-round paint drop-off; it’s one of several regional dates Hartford residents can use.
MDC’s web page also lists Windsor Locks on October 17 and West Hartford on October 31. West Hartford’s September 26 event moved, but the old PDF still shows that date. Check the web schedule first.
Paint only? A PaintCare store may work. MDC also takes thinner and spray cans, which paint stores don’t. Its 5-gallon paint can limit is separate from its motor oil and other limits.
Call MDC first about paint that may have lead or mercury, and about paint chips. Qualifying small businesses may get an appointment but can’t join the household line. Send the coordinator a list; home-style cans don’t make it household waste.
PaintCare’s 2025 report lists PPG Paints at 292 Murphy Road and the Hartford Transfer Station at 180 Leibert Road. It gives no current hours, permits, residency rules or space. Call before choosing either over the dated MDC event.
Between events, use PaintCare’s locator. PaintCare also picks up 100 gallons or more (by can size) free, if it approves. For other hazardous waste, MDC names New England Disposal Technologies as a paid option; call 866-769-1621 about your load and an appointment first.
Bring ID showing where you live. Don’t mix products. Pack them in throwaway boxes in the trunk, remove anything that could pass for waste, and stay in the car while staff unload.
Full preparation checklist →No. You can go to any current MDC member-town date.
No. It limits each can, not the whole load. Ask MDC about your total.
No. Its only 2026 collection is October 24, 2026, and MDC had not posted 2027 dates as of October 6, 2026. Don’t bring paint on other days.
No. The report shows it took part that year, not today’s access or permit rules. Call first, or use a store you know takes paint. MDC events have clear town rules.
October 6 recheck of MDC’s schedule: ten 2026 dates, April 25 to October 31, Saturdays 8–1 except Sunday, May 17; residents of any of the ten towns can use any date. No 2027 dates. The state’s September 30 schedule matches October 24. MDC’s 2018 business form has unclear weight wording, so we don’t use it to judge which businesses qualify. Ask MDC about prices, approval and item limits.
