If it's just house paint, drop it at Sherwin-Williams on Elmira Road or Pacific Ace Hardware on Merchant Street any day they're open. If you also have spray cans, wait for a Saturday and take everything to Davis Street.
Take it all to 855 1/2 Davis Street on a Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Keep each product in its own labeled container. If it's over 15 gallons or 125 pounds, come back the next Saturday.
Recology sends Dixon residents to the Vacaville center on Saturdays. For house paint on a weekday, Dixon Ace Hardware on N. 1st Street or the ACTenviro transfer station on Tremont Road are PaintCare drop-offs.
Skip the Saturday line. PaintCare lists ACTenviro in Dixon for up to 500 gallons from very small businesses, weekdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. For other business hazardous waste, book an appointment with ACTenviro.
Take paint to the Recology hazardous waste facility at 855 1/2 Davis Street on any Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; it's free for Vacaville residents and you don't need an appointment. In Vacaville, in Solano County, leftover paint goes to the Recology Vacaville Solano hazardous waste facility at 855 1/2 Davis Street. Fairfield has its own appointment-only site, so the Davis Street facility is the one for Vacaville.
The Davis Street recycling center is open Tuesday through Saturday, but it takes hazardous waste only on Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Don't bring paint on a weekday expecting the buy-back counter to take it. Mattresses, carpet and e-waste go on the same Saturday.
Nearly new products dropped at the facility go to a Reuse Center on site. Vacaville residents can take paint, cleaners, car products and garden chemicals for free, Saturdays 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Recology's Dixon page sends Dixon residents to the Vacaville center on Saturdays. Fairfield has its own household hazardous waste site. Its 2026 guide says it's open 9 a.m. to noon on set Saturdays, by appointment only, and free to Fairfield residents (707-437-8971). PaintCare lists that site at 2901 Industrial Court and says it also serves Suisun City, Travis and unincorporated Solano County households. If you live outside Vacaville city limits, call 707-448-2945 before you go; the Vacaville pages name only Vacaville residents.
PaintCare lists the ACTenviro transfer station at 6940 Tremont Road in Dixon, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. It takes up to 500 gallons of house paint, stain and varnish per visit from households and very small businesses. It doesn't take spray cans.
Recology picks up motor oil and filters at the curb in its own jugs and bags, and household batteries in a sealed bag on top of the blue cart. It doesn't offer curbside pickup for paint. Paint, spray cans and thinner go to Davis Street on a Saturday or, for house paint only, to a PaintCare store.

With 100 gallons or more, ask PaintCare about a free pickup.

Not if you're a Vacaville resident. Just bring ID and proof of address. Businesses need an appointment.

Not to the Saturday resident line. The city says businesses can drop off by appointment at 1-800-207-8222; Recology's Dixon page lists ACTenviro at 1-866-333-9222, option 4. October 16, 2026: read the City of Vacaville's household hazardous waste page (in a browser; direct downloads were blocked), Recology Vacaville Solano's hazardous waste and recycling facility pages, the April 2026 BinThinking newsletter from the city and Recology, Recology Dixon's hazardous waste page, Republic Services' 2026 Fairfield guide, and PaintCare's locator data for Vacaville, Fairfield and Dixon. Conflicts: the business appointment number differs (city 1-800-207-8222; Recology Dixon page, ACTenviro 1-866-333-9222 option 4). The city names only Vacaville residents; Recology's Dixon page adds Dixon. Whether unincorporated Solano residents near Vacaville can use Davis Street wasn't stated anywhere we read; PaintCare lists the Fairfield site (2901 Industrial Ct.) for unincorporated Solano County households, but Fairfield's own guide says free to Fairfield residents and gives no address for the site. ACTenviro's Dixon hours and 500-gallon limit come only from PaintCare's listing. No one-day events were posted. Peer review on Oct. 16 removed an unsourced line that the Reuse Center's stock changes weekly. Store hours weren't checked.
