From PaintCare’s drop-off map ↗, updated October 6, 2026. Hours and limits are PaintCare’s. Distances are straight-line, not driving.
If cans and labels are intact, see if the Ashby store fits your schedule. Keep the whole load under 10 gallons, and mention damaged cans first. A close store only helps if it has room.
Use the county household program, not a paint-only store. Tell staff what you know without mixing things or guessing. Check Oakland's holiday closure weeks if you're on a deadline.
Alameda County has a program for landlords and condo associations; qualify and book first. You may need an EPA ID unless it's only latex paint and universal waste. Keep tenant leftovers and contractor waste separate.
PaintCare can check if your business paint qualifies. For other chemicals, use the county's small business service. Berkeley's household page doesn't let a university, company or contractor use the household line.
Outdoor Supply Hardware at 1025 Ashby Avenue takes PaintCare paint free, up to 10 gallons per visit. For thinner, spray cans or a mixed cleanup, use Alameda County's site in Oakland with proof you live in the county.
Leftover house paint doesn't go to Berkeley's transfer station. Use the Ashby Avenue store or the county site in Oakland.
Berkeley's transfer station at 1201 Second Street takes no hazardous waste. It takes a few items like motor oil, but not paint. Keep paint out of construction debris loads.
The Ashby store is open longer than the county site. Call to check for room. Its 10-gallon paint limit doesn't stretch to more paint or any solvents.
Have 100 gallons or more by can size? Ask PaintCare to pick it up. A one-day Albany event from June 2025 still shows in searches; it's over, so check the county calendar.

Keep cans closed, upright and labeled, apart from solvents and spray cans. Bring proof of Alameda County address to the hazardous waste site. Liquid paint never goes in the blue cart or the transfer station.
Full preparation checklist →No. The PaintCare store and the county household site are free. Transfer station fees and private pickup quotes are separate.
No. StopWaste lists 10 gallons per visit, and there may be less room on the day.
Not through this guide. StopWaste's landlord program won't take lead paint cleanup debris. Ask the program where to take it.
We checked what Berkeley refuses separately from each drop-off's rules and found no current city paint pickup. The household site is shared with Oakland.
