Take latex paint to the Ukiah Transfer Station, 3151 Taylor Drive, Monday–Saturday 8 a.m.–4 p.m.; it's free. The City of Ukiah sends self-haulers here from the Ukiah Valley (Calpella to Burke Hill), Redwood Valley, Hopland, Potter Valley, Boonville, Philo and Comptche. It asks everyone else to use their own local transfer station. Potter Valley (8923 Main St.) and Boonville (18851 Mountain View Rd.) both take latex paint, per the county's flier.
The 2026 Haz-Mobile flier listed three two-day stops: Covelo in February, Willits in April and the Caspar station near Mendocino in June. All three have passed. Until a new schedule is posted on MendoRecycle.org, the Wednesday Ukiah facility is the only regular place the county lists for thinner, solvents and other chemicals.
The 2026 Haz-Mobile flier allows 15 gallons of paint plus 15 gallons of other hazardous waste per car, and the Wednesday facility is the Haz-Mobile's base. PaintCare's listing for the same site says 100 gallons a visit. The transfer station's flier says 15 gallons of household hazardous items. If you have more, call 707-234-6400 before loading the truck.
The Mendocino Solid Waste Management Authority, a partnership of Ukiah, Willits, Fort Bragg and the county, pays Ukiah Waste Solutions (C&S Waste Solutions) to run the Wednesday facility. C&S also lists the transfer station as one of its sites. Use 707-234-6400 for both. The City of Ukiah page and some PaintCare listings still show the authority's old 707-468 numbers.
PaintCare lists Sherwin-Williams at 217 E. Gobbi St. in Ukiah for up to 20 gallons of house paint a visit. Plaza Paint on North State Street is marked closed in PaintCare's data, so don't go there. In Willits, the transfer station at 351 Franklin Ave. takes latex paint. On the coast, PaintCare lists Rossi Building Materials in Fort Bragg (10 gallons). With 100 gallons or more of house paint, ask PaintCare about a free pickup.

Keep paint in its original, labeled can with the lid on tight, nothing bigger than 5 gallons. Don't bring spray cans to the transfer station. At the Wednesday facility, stay in your car with the engine off and let staff unload. Count your gallons before you leave home.
Full preparation checklist →Yes. The Ukiah Transfer Station at 3151 Taylor Drive is open Saturday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and takes latex paint free. October 16, 2026: read MendoRecycle.org (Mendocino Solid Waste Management Authority), its 2026 Haz-Mobile flier and its January 2025 drop-off locations flier (both image PDFs, read page by page); C&S Waste Solutions' household hazardous waste page and its Ukiah Transfer Station page; the City of Ukiah solid waste page; and PaintCare's locator data for Mendocino County. All three 2026 Haz-Mobile events (Covelo Feb. 6–7, Willits April 3–4, Caspar June 4–5) are past; no later 2026 dates were posted. Conflicts: PaintCare lists 100 gallons per visit at 3200 Taylor Drive, the county flier says 15 plus 15; the operator's page gives 8 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. openings for the transfer station; its main list names latex paint only while its FAQ and PaintCare include oil-based. The flier gives Caspar as 14000 Prairie Way and the locations flier as 15000. PaintCare's Willits Corp Yard and Fort Bragg Haz-Mobile entries look out of date. Peer review (Oct. 16): re-read every source; the C&S Haz-Mobile flier linked from its page (dated Nov. 10, 2025) lists the same three 2026 stops. The 15 + 15 limits are printed on the Haz-Mobile flier; the base facility's own limits aren't published separately. The two Taylor Drive addresses are about 200 yards apart by PaintCare's map points; no source says they face each other. The mendocinocounty.gov authority page blocked automated access. Spray-can acceptance at the Wednesday facility isn't stated. Store hours weren't checked.
