Ace Hardware of Chico takes PaintCare paint and is open evenings and Sundays. Check it has room. It saves waiting for Friday, but it won't take solvents or unknown chemicals.
The Chico site serves all Butte County households. PaintCare also lists Recology's site at 2720 S 5th Avenue in Oroville, open to households the first and third Friday, 9 a.m.–2 p.m., but the county limits it to Oroville residents and Recology customers.
Call the county small-business program at 530-343-5488 to qualify and book. Small cans don't make business waste household waste. PaintCare may take the house paint; other job chemicals need their own plan.
For paint only, PaintCare lists Visions Environmental at 4801 Feather River Boulevard in Oroville, Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m., up to 200 gallons per visit; call ahead above that. The Chico limit is far smaller. Save thinner and other chemicals for the Chico site.
Butte Regional's site near Chico Airport takes household paint and chemicals free, Friday 9–1 and Saturday 9–4, with a Butte County utility or garbage bill. Ace Hardware on West East Avenue takes PaintCare paint all week. Visions Environmental in Oroville takes big paint-only loads on weekdays.
Butte County households can drop off paint two days a week near Chico Airport. Bring proof of address, and note the short Friday hours.
Friday ends at 1 p.m.; Saturday runs to 4 p.m. For a whole-house load, Saturday may be easier.
Chico cites a 5-gallon/50-pound limit on hazardous waste carried at once, but PaintCare lists the Marauder Street site at 15 gallons. Plan on 5 gallons, and call 866-429-2288 before bringing more paint.
Proof of address is a garbage, water, phone, cable or power bill with a Butte County address. Chico doesn't list a driver's license alone, so bring a recent bill.
For house paint only, check PaintCare's map. A 100-gallon pile (by can size) may get free PaintCare pickup. Contractor waste must pass PaintCare's business check.

Don't mix products. Keep labels and lids on, and load containers in the back. Call staff first about leaks.
Full preparation checklist →No. Butte County households don't need one during regular hours.
Yes. The city says any Butte County resident with proof of address can.
Yes, for paint only. PaintCare lists Visions Environmental in Oroville on weekdays, up to 200 gallons per visit. Call first; it doesn't take other chemicals.
Rechecked October 6 on Chico's page: hours, proof of address, the 5-gallon/50-pound rule and paint items. Butte County's page wouldn't load, so the Oroville rule is from October 4. PaintCare's map says 15 gallons per visit, conflicting with the city, so we default to 5 and say call. Visions, the Recology Oroville schedule and Ace's 20-gallon limit come from PaintCare's map. A "Paradise" listing on Lower Rock Creek Road is in Mono County, so it's left out.
