From PaintCare’s drop-off map ↗, updated October 6, 2026. Hours and limits are PaintCare’s. Distances are straight-line, not driving.
Sullivan Road's page says household hazardous waste is taken seven days, but its paint section says thinner and aerosols are weekends only. University Road takes all three from households any day. On a weekday, go there, or call 509-477-6800.
Sullivan Road takes no business hazardous waste. PaintCare lists University Road for households and very small businesses, latex only for businesses. The city page says no business hazardous waste, so check with Sunshine first. Oil-based job paint goes to a PaintCare store or a private hauler.
University Road has a reuse cart for good paint and household products. You need an attendant's OK to take anything. Space is limited, so ask before leaving several gallons.
Spokane County treats two-part coatings and epoxy as hazardous waste, not paint. They don't count toward the paint limit. Bring them labeled and sealed, within the per-type hazardous waste limit.
Both the county's Sullivan Road station and Sunshine's University Road station take household paint daily, 7:30 to 5, up to 15 gallons a visit. University is the city's contracted station. It has a reuse cart and takes latex from very small businesses through PaintCare. Sullivan Road takes no business waste.
Spokane Valley has two transfer stations that take household paint seven days a week: the county's Valley station on Sullivan Road and the city's Sunshine station on University Road. Different companies run them, with different holidays and business rules.
Spokane Valley contracts with Sunshine Disposal at 2405 N. University Road, where household hazardous waste is free. The county's Valley Transfer Station at 3941 N. Sullivan Road is part of the regional system. Either one works for household paint.
Spokane County takes up to 5 gallons per type of hazardous waste and 15 gallons total per day, and nothing unidentified. Staff no longer pour out flammables, so you won't get containers back.
The county's paint list includes deck and floor coatings, elastomeric, primer, sealer, lacquer, urethane, masonry waterproofer, rust preventer and field paint. Car and boat paint, art paint, epoxy, two-part coatings, roof patch and tar count as hazardous waste, not paint recycling.
Sunshine is closed Easter Sunday. The county stations aren't. Both close New Year's Day, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
PaintCare stores on Sprague Avenue, Thierman Road and N. Sullivan Road take paint-only loads within their limits. For other business hazardous waste, Spokane County names Clean Harbors (877-333-4244), GrayMar Environmental and ACTenviro. For 100+ gallons, ask PaintCare about pickup.

Don't bring leaking, empty or unlabeled cans. Keep paint apart from thinner and aerosols so staff can send each to the right spot. At Sullivan Road, sort your recyclables before you drop them off too.
Full preparation checklist →Yes, at both stations, 7:30 a.m.–5 p.m., except listed holidays.
Paint has its own 15-gallon limit per visit. Other hazardous waste is limited to 5 gallons per type and 15 gallons total per day. Call 509-477-6800 before a big mixed load.
Not Sullivan Road. PaintCare lists University Road for very small businesses, latex only. The city page says no business hazardous waste, so call Sunshine at 509-924-5678 first.
