Everything you need to get rid of leftover paint responsibly in Chattanooga.

4063 N Hawthorne St, Chattanooga, TN 37406
The street address is the one Chattanooga lists for its Solid Waste and Recycling office; the hazardous waste page itself shows only a map pin. Carry paint in your trunk, upright and secured.
Your state doesn’t have a PaintCare program, so stores here don’t take paint for free. These are the public drop-off programs PaintCare’s map lists, closest first. Most only serve their own residents and some charge a fee. Call before you go.

From PaintCare’s drop-off map ↗, updated October 6, 2026. Hours and limits are PaintCare’s. Distances are straight-line, not driving.
You use the same city facility. Hamilton County's own recycling centers don't take hazardous waste; the county says the city handles it for all county residents.
The facility asks for a driver's license showing Tennessee residency, so a Georgia license won't qualify. Use your own county's options.
Leave the lids off until the paint is completely dry, then put the cans in your trash. If you'd rather pay to drop it off, PaintCare's map lists a paid Hixson Pike store; call first.
The facility takes residential waste only. Businesses must use a commercial hazardous waste hauler.
Take oil-based paint and thinners to Chattanooga's household hazardous waste facility at 4063 N Hawthorne St, Tuesday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.; bring a Tennessee driver's license. Latex paint isn't accepted. Let it dry completely, then put it in your trash.
Chattanooga's household hazardous waste facility on North Hawthorne Street takes oil-based paint from any Tennessee resident, Tuesday to Saturday. It does not take latex or acrylic paint; the city and Hamilton County say to let latex dry completely and put it in your trash.
The facility accepts household waste from Tennessee residents. Bring a state-issued driver's license showing you live in Tennessee. Hamilton County says the city handles hazardous waste for all county residents.
It's open Tuesday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. It also closes for 12 holidays, including Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas.
That's the most one household can drop off. Pack leaking cans inside a sealed container of 5 gallons or less with cat litter or crumpled newspaper, and ride everything upright in the trunk.
Both the city and Hamilton County say latex isn't toxic and isn't accepted. Let it dry completely before it goes in your trash receptacle.
Tennessee has no free PaintCare program. PaintCare's locator lists a paid Atlanta Paint Disposal drop-off at Benjamin Moore, 5529 Hixson Pike (423-843-9286): $25 per 5-gallon bucket, $5 per gallon, $2 per quart or spray can. We know it only from that listing, so call first. TDEC's mobile collection days no longer take paint. Businesses must hire a commercial hazardous waste hauler.

Separate latex from oil-based. Set latex aside to dry with the lid off, adding kitty litter to speed it up. Load oil-based paint and thinners upright and secured in the trunk, and bring your Tennessee license.
Full preparation checklist →No. Any Tennessee resident with a state-issued driver's license showing Tennessee residency can use it for household waste.
No. Latex and acrylic paint are on the not-accepted list. Dry it and put it in your trash.

Yes: 15 gallons or 150 pounds per household.
PaintCare's locator lists a paid drop-off at a Hixson Pike paint store. Call the store first to confirm it's still taking paint and what it charges.
October 7, 2026: read the City of Chattanooga's household hazardous waste page, its waste and recycling page, Hamilton County's recycling locations page, TDEC's household hazardous waste page and 2026 mobile schedule, the Atlanta Paint Disposal Tennessee page (its store map needs scripts and did not load) and PaintCare's locator data. The hazardous waste page shows a map pin but no street address; we used 4063 N Hawthorne St, the address the city lists for Solid Waste and Recycling, which search listings also give for the facility. No fee is published. We could not open the Chattanooga Habitat ReStore's donation rules, so we don't list it. TDEC's 2026 schedule has no Hamilton County event, since the county has a permanent site.
