THE LOCAL ANSWERTake any household paint, latex or oil-based, to the city's hazardous waste event on Saturday, October 10, 2026 (3033 S. 63rd St.) or Saturday, November 7, 2026 (3901 N. Delaware Ave.), 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Any other day, harden latex paint with kitty litter and take it to one of the six sanitation convenience centers with proof you live in Philadelphia. Hold oil-based paint for an event.
Philadelphia takes all kinds of household paint at its household hazardous waste days. The last two 2026 events are Saturday, October 10, in Southwest Philadelphia and Saturday, November 7, in Port Richmond. Between events, the city's six sanitation convenience centers take latex paint only after you harden it. Pennsylvania has no paint store take-back program.
Two events left this year
The city held five hazardous waste days earlier in 2026 (April 11, May 9, June 13, July 9 and September 19). Those are over. The last two are Saturday, October 10, at 3033 S. 63rd St., and Saturday, November 7, at 3901 N. Delaware Ave. Both run 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the city says you don't need to register. The city has not posted any dates after November 7.
Oil-based paint has to wait for an event
The events take oil-based, latex and water-based paint, spray paint, varnish and solvents. The convenience centers only list hardened latex. So oil-based stain or paint has to go to October 10 or November 7, or sit safely in your basement until the city posts 2027 dates.
Harden latex for a convenience center
Any of the six centers takes latex or water-based paint cans once the paint is solid. Mix in kitty litter or shredded newspaper until it won't pour. They're open Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Bring proof that you live in Philadelphia, and your vehicle must weigh under 6,000 pounds.
Suburban neighbors can come too
The city says its events are open to households in Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties as well as Philadelphia. The convenience centers are for Philadelphia residents only.
