THE LOCAL ANSWER

Dry latex paint with kitty litter or sand in a plastic bag and put it in your Cherry Hill trash cart. Take oil-based paint, stain and thinner to Camden County’s free collection on Saturday, October 17, 2026, 8:30 a.m.–2 p.m., at 2311 Egg Harbor Road in Lindenwold, with proof of county residency.

Cherry Hill Township in Camden County, New Jersey, lets you throw out latex paint with your trash once it’s dried in a plastic bag. Oil-based paint and solvents go to a Camden County hazardous waste day. The last 2026 one is Saturday, October 17, at the county highway complex in Lindenwold. New Jersey has no PaintCare program, so stores don’t take paint back.

Dry latex in a bag, then into the green cart

The township’s method: set a strong plastic bag in a cardboard box, add kitty litter or sand, pour in the paint and stir. Leave the bag open until it’s dry (a few hours to a few days), tie it shut and put it in your green trash cart. Let the empty can harden and toss it with the lid off. Cherry Hill asks that dried paint cans go in a plastic bag first.

October 17 is the last county day of 2026

Camden County’s final 2026 hazardous waste collection is Saturday, October 17, 8:30 a.m.–2 p.m., at the Charles J. DePalma Highway Complex, 2311 Egg Harbor Road, Lindenwold. It takes oil-based paint, stain, varnish, thinner and spray paint, but not latex. Bring proof of Camden County residency.

The Perina Boulevard event already happened

Camden County held a 2026 collection at Cherry Hill’s Public Works Complex, 1 Perina Boulevard, on March 21. Four more passed after that. The township’s Public Works yard takes motor oil, car batteries, tires (four a year), fluorescent and CFL bulbs, rechargeable batteries and cell phones from residents on weekdays, but paint isn’t on that list.

Contractors haul their own debris

Remodeling debris from a hired contractor can’t go out with your trash; the contractor must take it to an approved site. The county days turn away businesses and commercial vehicles, so a painting company needs a private hazardous waste service.

Free pickup programs and other options

There is no free store take-back in New Jersey. Offer usable paint to a neighbor or a local group. For questions about trash and the latex method, call Cherry Hill Public Works at 856-424-4422 (Monday–Friday 7 a.m.–4:30 p.m.). For county event dates, call 856-858-5241.

For the county day, keep oil-based paint in its original labeled cans and load them in the trunk or rear cargo area, not on a seat; you stay in the car. Don’t bring empty cans or latex. For latex at home, use the bag-and-box method and don’t put a can in the cart without a bag.

Cherry Hill questions5
Can I put latex paint in my Cherry Hill trash?

Yes, once it’s dried out with sand or kitty litter and sealed in a plastic bag. The township says this works year-round.

Where do I take oil-based paint from Cherry Hill?

To Camden County’s hazardous waste day on Saturday, October 17, 2026, 8:30 a.m.–2 p.m., at 2311 Egg Harbor Road, Lindenwold. It’s the last one of 2026.

Will the county event take latex paint?

No. Latex paint is on the county’s what-not-to-bring list, along with empty containers and electronics.

Can I drop paint at the Public Works Complex on Perina Boulevard?

Not on a normal day. It takes motor oil, car batteries, tires, bulbs, rechargeable batteries and cell phones. Its paint collection was the March 21, 2026 county event, which has passed.

Can my painting company use the county event?

No. Camden County’s events are for residents only, with no businesses or commercial vehicles.

Sources and how we checked5

October 7, 2026: read Cherry Hill’s latex paint page and current trash guidelines, Camden County’s Division of Environmental Affairs page and its 2026 event flyer (image). Five of the six 2026 county events have passed; October 17 in Lindenwold is upcoming. The flyer lists latex paint as not accepted (a search-engine summary said otherwise; the flyer wins). PaintCare’s locator also lists the Lindenwold event as households only with small quantities. Not found: any gallon limit, 2027 dates, and a Habitat ReStore paint policy for Camden County. Cherry Hill’s two pages differ slightly (one says toss the dried can with the lid off, the other says bag dried cans), so the guide says to do both. PaintCare has no New Jersey program. Peer review, October 7, 2026: reread the county flyer (latex paint is pictured under “What not to bring”; residents only, no businesses or commercial vehicles; 8:30 a.m.–2 p.m.). The flyer gives no zip; Egg Harbor Road in Lindenwold is in 08021, so we kept 08021 rather than PaintCare’s 08012. Corrected the Public Works list (it names cell phones and rechargeable batteries, not electronics in general).

Checked October 7, 2026 against these sources, not by phone. How we research.
