THE LOCAL ANSWERDry latex paint with cat litter or sawdust and put the open can in your trash. Oil-based paint goes to Summit ReWorks at 1201 Graham Rd in Stow, but its 2026 season ended September 24 and it reopens Thursday, June 3, 2027. It’s for Summit County households only, with no containers over 5 gallons.
Akron residents use Summit ReWorks’ hazardous waste center in Stow, but it only opens on summer Thursdays. The 2026 season ended September 24. It reopens June 3, 2027. Latex was never taken there: ReWorks says to dry it and put it in the trash.
The season is over until June 3, 2027
ReWorks ran Thursdays 2–7 p.m. from June to September 24, 2026. Its next season starts Thursday, June 3, 2027. Store oil-based paint safely until then: lids tight, off concrete, away from heat and kids.
Latex: three ways to dry it
ReWorks says to mix in cat litter, sawdust or shredded paper about half and half; leave the lid off a nearly empty can; or pour 1-inch layers into a plastic-lined box or pie tin. Once solid, put the open can in your curbside trash.
Go by the Hours page, not the video
The center is at 1201 Graham Rd in Stow, at the Route 8 overpass. ReWorks says the hours in its latex paint video are wrong; its Hours page is current. The first two hours and the first and last days of the season are busiest.
No 5-gallon-plus containers, no group loads
ReWorks turns away containers over 5 gallons and items collected from several homes or a workplace. Trained technicians check each car and can refuse what doesn’t fit the rules.
Non-residents and businesses go elsewhere
Only Summit County homes can use the center. ReWorks sends businesses to licensed companies: EnviroServe (800-642-1311), Veolia (800-464-2387) and Clean Harbors (877-333-4244).
