From PaintCare’s drop-off map ↗, updated October 6, 2026. Hours and limits are PaintCare’s. Distances are straight-line, not driving.
Call about paint before bringing it with electronics or food scraps. The April approval says nothing about today’s bin space or gallon limit. If staff say no, book H-MRF; don’t leave paint at the yard.
The city sends special household items to the county site in Valhalla. List everything when booking so no chemical is mistaken for store-ready paint.
H-MRF resident slots are for households. A CESQG business can use the first-Thursday business slots; otherwise check PaintCare’s business rules. Contractors entering Gedney Monday–Saturday for other items can’t unload hazardous business waste there.
Book Westchester’s H-MRF, 15 Woods Road, Valhalla: Tuesday–Saturday by appointment, photo ID, 25 gallons of paint per visit. Gedney Recycling Yard isn’t a listed paint site yet. The city approved PaintCare bins there in April 2026, but PaintCare showed no White Plains site on October 6.
White Plains has a busy city yard on Gedney Way and the county H-MRF, but they take different things. Gedney’s PaintCare approval isn’t yet a working drop-off.
Two PaintCare bins at Gedney were approved by the council on April 6, 2026. But the city page still mentions PaintCare only generally, and PaintCare lists no White Plains site. Call the yard at 914-422-1472 before bringing paint to 87 Gedney Way.
H-MRF lets you pick paint and chemicals in one booking, up to two weeks ahead. Medicines are taken only on first Tuesdays and spring and fall take-back days, so a paint slot doesn’t cover a medicine cabinet.
Gedney is open Monday–Saturday, 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m., for residents and contractors, and Sunday 8 a.m.–noon for residents only. It takes e-waste in pods; the DPW At Your Service app books electronics pickups. The city says H-MRF, not Gedney, takes medicines, propane tanks up to 20 lb, tires and shredding.
Westchester’s fall 2026 Household Recycling Days are November 1 at RESCO, 3 John Walsh Boulevard, Peekskill, and November 7 at Playland Park, Rye, 9 a.m.–3 p.m. Free, first come, first served; preregister 25+ gallons of liquid. Expect long waits; H-MRF skips the line.
For a few good cans, use a PaintCare store in a nearby town; none is listed in White Plains. The closest listing, Scarsdale Transfer Station on Secor Road, is for Scarsdale households only. Harrison Paint Supply on Purdy Street is the nearest store open to all New York households. Ask Gedney whether its paint bins are running. A business, school or institution can ask the county helpline whether it counts as a very small business (CESQG) for H-MRF’s first-Thursday slots; the yard admitting contractors for other items doesn’t cover their paint.

Read or photograph each label before booking. Keep latex, oil paint, thinner and two-part products apart, and name each one to the site. Keep containers closed for the ride.
Full preparation checklist →Don’t assume so. Sunday is residents-only, but we found no Sunday paint drop-off. Check first.
No. Medicines are generally first-Tuesday only; check the day you pick.
No, it serves all Westchester residents by appointment with current government photo ID. White Plains isn’t one of the seven towns that may pay fees.
The city says call 211 or book online; the county HelpLine, 914-813-5425, runs 9 a.m.–7 p.m. daily. List every product type either way.
Re-read October 6, 2026: the Gedney page, the county H-MRF page, the fall event page and PaintCare’s locator, which lists no White Plains site. Gedney’s paint bins, limit and hours are unconfirmed, so we don’t list it.
